The 2 Comm Strat

LachdananLachdanan Join Date: 2003-06-04 Member: 16995Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Onos
Its nesesary to build up a second comm chair*mostly near a hive too prefent onos* and defend this place
next defend marine start up

So u get 2 Comms early in the game and while
fist comm <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo--> organises marine movment and building
the other <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo--> looks for aliens incoming and gorg.

<img src='http://mitglied.lycos.de/paiiapt2/pix/ns_tanith0000.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

u must join the winnerteam to get in the commchair

    hehehe

Any chance of you making the pic a *tad* smaller.

And another way of implementing that strat is to have the COM quit while still in the chair and someone jump in and wait for a new player to connect <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

sorry, i didn't quite understand this post. are there 2 actual functioning comms? or is this some sort of bedevilry and tomfoolery the likes of which i have never seen that creates 2 comms, but only one is ACTUALLY comming?
  • Roger_DodgerRoger_Dodger Join Date: 2003-03-11 Member: 14392Members
Hmmm i have never seen 2 comm's at the same time and thought it was restricted to one. *me suspects dodginess*. But anyway i think it is a waste as you can really use that other comm out on the field rather than in the chair.
I have seen only one awesome comm who gave all the stuff that was needed but also put attack target wp's on aliens, we absolutely caned the aliens. Hopefully with new comm useability maybe wp'ing aliens will be easier for the commie and be seen more.

I had a comm who allowed us to attack a lerk by wp-ing him. It took place in Power Silo, with a lerk hiding up on top of one of those hard-to-reach ledges. We didn't have jetpacks at that stage and MT stopped whenever he stood still. But the WP didn't <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

yea i got a screenshot of that bug to when i was playing other day, looks pretty funny, wonder if they will ever allow 2 comms in future version.
  • LambdaProjectLambdaProject Join Date: 2002-02-20 Member: 230Members
Lach, I'm guessing you are new to the forums (2 posts). Do you seriously think there were actually 2 comms that game? (the answer is no)

    Spolier below!

(p.s. its a bug that NS does when someone joins) (rarely happens)

heh , aliens have multigorging... why not allow multicomming ?

Different comm manage different tasks , starcraft team melee style...

Have any of you guys heard of a fine program called photoshop? If not, assume this was done by voodoo natural selection magic.

Hurray, everyone's a comm, including the dead alien!
  • KeyserKeyser Join Date: 2003-02-15 Member: 13591Members
Alright this is how I think it works. The commander while in the commchair leaves, then a new person joins the server, and while he is joining he is put in the exact same position as the person who just left was.

Might not be true but worth a shot.

    hehe
mastershake there some black boxes behind ur "comm" easy to see
and i dont think u can delete these with a photoshop perfectly.

    Keyser is right,
if the comm lag out u have a half sec to jump in and make a screeni
and in the 2 comms whith its #2 clan tag which is shown as Commander: #2 ...
    look like perfectly,
so it was really worth a shot

btw. i like the persons who think that 2 comms are needed

Yes, my work wasn't perfect, it was 1:00 am when I posted that. However, it is fairly easy to completely edit it out so no black boxes appear, and so that the "COMM"s are all perfectly aligned. I just felt like making a quick point. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Is that commchair bug anything like the one where if someone lags out and and u join u get kills for their mines?? Coz i have had that happen to me and i never touched a mine, in fact i was still standing on the ip when i got the mysterious kill.

Keyser59 nailed it on the head. It's how halflife allocates players connecting. If somebody leaves, it reuses the old data structure and give it to a new players. If your commander leaves, the next guy to join will get the comm picture next to his name until he finally pops up in the ready room.
I've seen it even more comparable in CS when you hit tab and see twice the amount of people on one team then the other, but they're all dead or have pings of 0. They're just not in game yet and are in the connecting process.

EVEN BETTER: I've seen people get mine kills for mines they didn't even plant because a previous player planted them, left the game, and when new player joined, was allocated the same data structures and same possession of the mines. So when the next skulk dies, instead of just showing a mine and the person who died, it shows "New Player" mines "skulk".

Yeah, its funny though. When a gorge leaves (its usually a bad sign for the aliens but) any of his offense chamber kills will be credited to no one. it just says "[OC] <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->" in the kills list. I guess the aliens are exempt from the data structure bug.
