i envy you.......
I wish i could feel the same awe i did first time I loaded up to a NS server.... the map was bast (by luck, it is a very impressive map) I remember literaly jumping out of my seat quite a few times.
anyway i was a marine, we had just taken the room where steam comes out of two bits on the floor and had built on them (later i found out this to be atmospheric ) we moved out to a room that had some water in it and some organic stuff all over the walls (Feedwater) i was in awe, the textures are so nice its unbeliveable.
after taking the res in there we moved down into tram tunnel, yet again speachless at the beauty of the area.
it was there i saw my first glimpse of an enemy, it was a skulk, i heard 3 or 4 slaps in my close vicinity. (all of us were parasited).
before long we moved up the tunnel and out into refinary, OMG what an amazing room that is to see for the first time, it makes you feel so small and insignificant.

lol, the first time I played ns I hated it. I was so confused. I evolved into a lerk and didn't know you had to press jump constantly to fly so I evolved back into a skulk. And when I asked "what should I do?" everyone just replied "kill", but a couple of days later my friend encouraged me to try again, and I was surprised at the coplexity.

    p.s: I started in version 1.02

DarkFrost: If you want that feeling of awe, get Half-Life 2 on September 30th... Except, don't look for any screenshots or information about it in the mean time... You'll be pretty impressed by the visual quality of HL2

When i first played NS it was on caged and, because i hadn't read the manual properly, i thought the gorge was a mean fighting machine so after evolving to it from the first time i felt invincible and went to attack the marine base.

    You can imagine what happened.

My first time was on bast. The games was about half done. As a marine we were trying to push feed from atmos. I turn a corner and saw my first OT. I saw no more after that. It was also my last time I was marine for a long time. I thought OT were indestructable.

The very first map I played was ns_bast. And to this day contained one of the funniest moments in my NS career. The big elevator was down, so naturally I just fell down rather than bothering with the ladder. Ow, there's falling damage. Off I go with about 15hp, well about 10 steps I go. In front of me there was one of my buddies, a fellow LMG marine. He was running off and about to turn the corner. Instantly he did a 180 and started frantically running back towards me. I know there isn't any facial expressions, but I could still see a look of "oh **** !" as the Big Giant Cow started to run towards the marine and I . Natually I had never seen a Big Scary Giant Cow before, and man was that an awe inspriing moment. I froze for a few seonds, but then I did the first thing that came to my mind. I shut the giant door; locking my fellow marine inside with the Big Giant Cow. I lived, and was protected (temporarialy) by the door. I had never had such a sigh of relief in a game before. Although I didn't yet know that was an Onos, I didn't have to RTFM to know that it was going to kick my ****. Just the sight of seeing the marine running for his life... just to have me shut the giant door on him so that we would be trapped in the room with the onos... at least he had a quick death. Needlesstosay that game didn't last very long, and I was introduced into what's commonly referred to as "an **** whopping" that was one of my first greatest, and funnisest moments in NS. Can't wait for more.

I don't remember which map was I first on (ns_caged, I think), but I can remember that we we're fighting off 4 Oni.... Talk about bad luck.. And I, of course, went: "Aaaargh, DIE DIE DIE!" and kamikazed into the feral crowd, shooting a few bullets, then getting my head ripped off.

Oh and of course, the commander didn't do much, as we didn't either....

I remember my first game. I was always trying harder because those in-game pop up messages kept demoting me to a soilder. You know the ones where you re-spawn and it says "You are now a soilder. Try to follow orders from your commander, and do your best to keep the enemy from killing your teamates and destroying your stuctures."
I am the super-newbie *rock on*

Ahhh to be new again, such a happy, girlie giggle time, that is until you get you get your butt bitten off by something you never saw.

The best thing I liked about being new is not knowing all the hidy holes and vents and getting surprised by aliens!! Thats not to say I still don't get surprised, just not as often.

My first game was on eclipse and I kept going aliens even know it suggested I go marines!! Hey who wants to go marines when you can be an all stopping skulk. Shame I didn't know how to evolve, not to mention what they did, or what those flashing symbols on the right of my screen meant. My first thought was that my team mates were using cheats not upgrades.

    Sigh.....those were the days.

Must say though that I do enjoy NS so much more now that I know what I am doing!!
