The Big Red Button

who invented this?
Well I've just been wondering. Why would you invent a big red button that you're not supposed to press? Isn't a button's job to be pressed? So why would you want a big red button if you can't press it? It just seems so unfair for the button, and so.. unrealistic.
No I'm not talking about emergency buttons, just the buttons you're not supposed to press period.

So who can tell me why a red button shouldn't be pressed, and if it shouldn't be pressed why it is so big and so red and always so... in the center.

Sorry I'm bored

...because everyone has to know that "THIS IS TEH BUTTAN UR NOT SUPPOSD TOO PRES!!"

That's why it's so big and red and in the middle. And the meaning of that button is, that it's needed once every 666 years when mars, venus and earth alligns but pressing it before that is bad.

    Glad to be of service.

well the button you are referring to actually has a use, every 666 years. ya know I'd really want to know why a normal person would bother to invent a button you're not supposed to press.

it's normally an emergency button... and it's big and red.. so you can find it when you need it... and you're not supposed to press it 'cause now isn't an emergency...

Those are there because the desert would look boring without them.... and the desert it's self is a physical test.. while the red button is a mental test to see how long you can stand to not-push the button...

Unfortunately now, everything I read about big red buttons just makes me think of the Father Ted episode on the plane. The non-Brits around here probably don't have any idea what I'm on about though.

Let me give you a history lesson, child.

The Big Red Button was created for a use. Only those that knew what it was would actually know to press it. It prevented you from getting other people from burning you up with flamethrowers.
Unfortunately, no one made use of this Great Button for unknown reasons, and the 'nubs', if you will, continued to be open for flamethrowing wars. It was a horrendus age, an age of chaos for the rulers of the Big Button, as they had to prevent the flamewars from burning down their magnificent kingdom.
... The rulers were going insane, they could not stand to let flamewars continue. They LOCKED everyone who didn't use the Big Red Button in jailcells.
    ...
    ...
Since then, the Big Red Button has been renamed 'search engine', the rulers, 'moderators', the kingdom 'forums'.

    Great story, eh?

People bulid nukes to win wars without fighting them (or even dropping the nukes), to stop wars, to wit: People build nukes with no intention of ever using them, as crazy as that might sound, it works.

    cso ur paraniod.

a button isnt a button if it is not supposed to be pressed. that is the whole purpose of a button - to be pressed. if it is not supposed to be pressed, it is not a button, it is a non-button

That's quite easy to answer silencer. When the first buttons were invented people went around merrily clicking them without a second thought, but as time went on people started having doubts, they wondered if the actions that happened when they pushed the button were mearly coencidence. That when they push the button the thing that happened, happened regardless of them pushing it, this was such a blow to the ideas of buttons that people thought discarding them forever. Fortunatly a solution was soon developed where great minds in the button community made a button that would *never* be pressed therefore *never* cause anything to happen and if no one ever pressed the button and nothing ever happened people could rest assured that button pressing actually caused things to happen.

There you have it folks, the mystery of the red button.
