Help With Joystick

DreadDread Join Date: 2002-07-24 Member: 993Members
I decided to put my ol' Gravis pro joystick(came with my comp) in to use with Allegiance but now I don't get the buttons to function properly. Actually, at all.

Here's a picture of it:
<img src='http://www.winnmicro.com/pro/product/prodimgs/gravis_pc_pro_stick.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

I plugged it in, added "2-axis, 2 button joystick" and calibrated it. The stick worked fairly well(a bit jammed but still worked) except none of the buttons did anything. I've played with it earlier and it has worked always perfectly(well, near-perfectly <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->). Maybe some of you comp-wizards could give me a hand here? It shows "OK" as joysticks status and I'm using Windows XP.

No, I'm not buying a new microsoft-?ber-super-sidewinder-pro-magic-joystick <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yea, I know. But most of the buttons have same purpose. I don't think one could really use it as 5-button joystick. Gravis just made it look like cool with 5 buttons and all...but I could be wrong <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I went to Gravis' site to find if there is any support for this thing but I'm not sure if this belongs to...

    Xterminator
    Eliminator
    Or t3h...
    Destroyer! series <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    This joystick is older than my granma but if im not completely mistaken, it's pretty common joystick so I'm hoping to see someone who knows something about it.

    Happens to me too, luckily it turns to the right only a little. Something with the settings I guess.

    Anyway, I found something interesting concerning my stick. Somwhere it said that it's a 4-axis 4-button joystick with built in throttle...wth?

    Edit: Pretty cool, I just found out that I can adjust throttle with my joystick from a small roll on the side. Though buttons are not working yet <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Edit2: I'm currently running it as "3-axis 4 button joystick", so I get the throttle to work but what's wrong with the buttons? And what is that 4th axis(if it exist), what does it do? Very odd.

    OMG! my first joystick! ...oh the sweet memories, I played X-Wing for the first time on it. I loved that thing.

    anyway, I believe there's no software for that joystick.

    if I'm not mistaken it's the PC Pro.

    anyway, spinning usually was due to bad calibration. a software problem, the stick isn't necessarily broken. as far as I can remember X-Wing usually required the calibration of the joystick whenever I started the game, so it's a rather trivial thing, ca't tell you how to forcebly calibrate it though <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    also, sorry for this noob-question, but did you try to customize your controls in the game and bind keys to the buttons?

    The buttons never reacted anyway, not in game and not in the calibration process. Suxorz to fly with joystick and still use keyboard to shoot :/

    how do you tell the game I am ussing a joystick?

    I can (via the gravis launcher) make the joystick act like a mouse so I know it 'works' but I can't get it to be a joystick in game <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
