<div class="IPBDescription">...not be abled to pick up?</div> I will ask this simple one word question-

    Um...what?
You can pick up any dropped gun. Only thing you can't pick up is a knife because you can't throw it (though that would be a cool idea. Ninja Marines at last!).

b/c they view it as a balance fix nuff said

(what he is talking about is the fact that in 1.1 marines no longer drop 'gunz' when they die)

oh and there are already probaly 3-5 topics on this

In the new 1.1 it said that guns were unable to be picked up. I think this is to reduce the amount of left over entities that the server has to deal with -- its for better server preformence I would assume. That and it encourages teamwork.

If you're talking about the v1.1 changes that when a marine dies his gun goes MIA, I can help. In many games in the 1.1 testing (and prior testing), the marines would tend to buy a handful of expensive weapons (usually gls) and die and then pick them up. This easily leads to turtling (gls can keep a base defended for quite some time if they're constantly changing hands). Flay got tired of this (especially after a game where 2 gls fended of the aliens for nearly an hour) and changed it.

All i can say is i never found it a balance issue and rather a tactical one(the nade launcher trade off). Woop de do if if it took 2 hours to take a base because of them. A good rts allows superior defense over offense. No dropped weopons is super duper duper duper uber lame.

I acually though the gun disapearing time was a little too short at the moment. Forever staying would be lame unless aliens could destroy guns.

ok, I was trying to stay out of the 1.1 discussional stuff

    BUT FFS

1.1 changes every week, they are PLAYTESTING, stop whining about FICTIONAL STUFF, that ISNT DEFINITIVE yet !!!!

    srry....
had to get that off of my chest....

    [/edit]
yes you have the right to discuss whatever you want, but A subject as 1.1 is getting very tedious and try to limit the discussions to things that are actually IN the game for sure (as far as you can be sure with 1.1 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )

TA for reading this miserable plea....

Em, I can see what you are saying about the gunz defending a base for an hour...that would make sense. But that is STILL a major bummer. I say you should put a limit on the number of times you can PICK UP a gun. So they cant just spamm it in there. Maybe have a limit of three times that they can pick it up, then after the third pick up (and he dies with it, of course), it just dissappears THEN. Thats way to lame eliminating these gunz period.

If you drop them with the "drop" function it does not disappear, only when you die.
  • Lt_HendricksonLt_Hendrickson Join Date: 2003-03-21 Member: 14761Members
I can see that becoming a new but widly unused strat. o god im falling to my doom. Toss gun.

If someone had the perceptiveness to think of that before they died, then good for them. They deserve the advantage. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And heres a simple answer:
If an alien chews you to bits and kills you, he should be able to chew the gun to pieces as well....and thats assuming the gun isn't damaged while he is chewing you to bits. So rather then making a complex system where an alien can chew a gun up or possilby destroy it while its in the marines hands, they simply said once you die you can't pick it back up.

So if you die with it in your hands it is destroyed, but if you throw it to the ground before dying it is undamaged?

My only point here is that you can't explain this very well with the storyline of NS. That doesn't mean it is good or bad as far as balance is concerned. I don't have an opinion on this, especially since I usually play aliens.

I dont know if anyone else has experianced this, but when i drop something it drops behind me? Instead of throwing it forward it throws it backwards.

    Any ideas?

i would prefer it left the way it is...

Doesn't it discourage team work? If a team mate can't use the gun, how is the team working together? I personally believe it should be left in (because of how it discourages team work), but if it is a balance issue I won't mind the change.

Why don't marines drop weapons when they die in 1.1? Because a skulk that finds a dead fade can't just put on the skin and become a fade itself.
  • hutchhutch Join Date: 2003-05-15 Member: 16349Members
it would be best if the time before the gun disappears after being dropped was just shortened rather than being zero.

Why is it everyone is automatically opposed to any and all nerfs that occur in NS, yet is adamantly pro-buff whenever upper management decides to implement one?
Is it the mentality that marines and aliens should only be changed in ways to make them MORE powerful, each and every time, and this is the only way we can possibly hope to balance them?

This change is a prospective balance change, if its implemented, deal with it. Its not necessarily bad, it just means another obstacle for the marines to overcome in their struggle. Its not "uber duper super super lame", it simply is.
  • ZelZel Join Date: 2003-01-27 Member: 12861Members
we arent shouting about a nerf, some of us really believe this will hinder teamwork.

as commander i love to send an LMG marine out with the HMG so that they can both use it if one of them dies in a fluke accident, which happens a lot on a pub, so guns need to stay ont he ground about four seconds...

on the other hand, as alien i hate having to guard that hmg, and once i take out the hmg'er i want it to stay dead, so, you see i am biased ont he point either way, and this is why it has to be playtested.

none of our griping will affect the outcome of 1.1 anyway....

Cereal Killr I think even when ya use the drop feature from the menu and drop yer gun it'll disappear after abit.

    first up:
    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->No dropped weopons is super duper duper duper uber lame.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I hope that was a joke, if not LOL

next up, the 'plot reason' for it is this:

TSA higherups knowticed that guns were not being reussed as much as they should, thus they will instantly disasemble into their base nanites and go back into the flow. This had the positive side effect of making the gunns slightly stronger and on the whole cost less res per gun.

    therem plot covered
    next up, this DOESN'T PROMOTE TEAM PLAY?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->??, try again

if you have a squad, and only one of you has a welder you make sure HE LIVES!, save deal with a GL and HMG. it turns them much more into the support (that they are supposed to be) instead of just hopped up marines (carrying and HMG/GL nw gives you an honestly diff job, survive and support, before if you died, oh well the res go right into the next marine to walk over it)

And I have seen the 'reuse weaps just to prolong the game' even in 1.04. In my mind, any thing that speeds up the end game is good <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

so quit yah carping about something YOU CAN'T CHANGE (and don't even have to deal with yet) and go play some NS!

But wait, wouldnt having those little machines know about having to go into the ship (the memory and stuff chips bits and tech inside them) make them just more expensive than to have a ....wait. I was just going to use a disposable camera for example, and its the perfect one. I guess...god damn, I'm so turned around, I'm just going to sto-
