<div class="IPBDescription">How do you play a wav over comms?</div> Just wondering if anyone had any success with scripting a direct input of a wav file over voice comms in NS?

I think that HL's voice chat is written in a way to use the least bandwidth possible... so I don't think u'll get more than a cruddy sounding file.. plus the other players on u're team might not like u playing music... But here's an idea. In u're control panel, set u're record from to "wave out" or w/e it calls it. Then, play music, and just hold talk.... and u're done... maybe bind talk to caplock, if possible :-p

    Aye,

Well the idea isn't to play music over comms, just a short wav file for a laugh.

I knew a CS guy who came to NS and had it setup to play the Benny Hill tune over comms when all the marines were in RR, and the quality was far better than the results I'm getting, so I'm kinda hopeful there is a way. Couldn't find him though.

    Cheers.

I would love to point you to a thread that would assist you, but it seems to be our policy to not tell anyone how to spam voicecomm. Perhaps after 1.1 comes out?

Well I tried here as a last resort, search on google and on these boards brought back nothing.

Also, tis not for spam. We run 2 servers and the 2nd is mostly just clan play and groups of us who know each other, little things like this no more than custom sprays, can give us all a laugh now and again. Tis all purely for entertainment value for ourselves.

    Thanks anyhows,

    JayK.

In that case, I'd greatly appreciate if you kept your script private or off these forums. We have no interest in becoming suppliers to ragers <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ragers?

Fair enough, as you feel it's inappropriate I took it out.

Ah go on, "muck about" <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Its a laugh to play scary music etc to your mates playing, anyway, pity that you can't mute sometimes in NS, well those that complain should find out how and do it, instead of whining <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

People can use these scripts for useful purposes. What if they don't have a mic? They could play a quick wav file (bound to a hotkey) that'd say "Incoming main" instead of doing an annoying type bind that no one reads <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Problem are those who find it funny to play some really annoying .wavs over and over - such wavscripts are nice toys, but too easily exploitable to make them very 'popular'.

    Die.

    Now.

    Please.

The only thing worse than someone playing a .wav over voice comm is someone singing over voice comm. I know alot of people think it's funny, but I have my sound up loud and I'm wearing headphones, do you think YOU would find it funny to have a mega-compressed version of "Can't Touch This" blaring RIGHT INTO YOUR EARS? Die.

Please don't offer any links, or reply to this post. Let it die or be locked by a mod. These posts have come up time and time again only to be locked. We don't want vcommspamm in NS.

I used to have a key bound to play the little chime from when you hit a duck in the old NES game Duck Hunt.

Of course, I always played on a server with friends, and they didn't mind it.

Yeah, that's the issues with this type of thing. I'm thinking anyone who has ideas whould just pm those interested, because this is such a huge potential for vcomm spamming; and I already get annoyed with the, "Comm, need a jp/hmg NOW!" being yelled by a 7 year old...

<b>You apparently missed the part where we asked not to post links to such programs.</b>

I can't tell you how many times wav spam has made me open the console and type "exit". I don't really see where the cheerful part is.

Your link makes baby Onos cry.

Karaoke and NS do not mix. All though, I could see people having a nice little sing along in the ready room...

The reason we do not allow people to link this on the forums is because NS 1.0x does not currently have an easy, built-in way to mute people. "toggleeditps" in console will allow you to do it, but it's not intuitive.

When 1.1 is released with mute support, we'll see.
