The best thing you can ever buy: The Logitech MX 500 optical mouse. My *GOD* I LOVE THIS MOUSE. Don't go in for Microsoft's crap. I had a Microsoft IntelliMouse for a year, and it broke. I treated it well, never hit it, threw it, dropped it, or anything. I never touched the camera or the LED, and one day it just died on me. Do not be fooled by flashy Microsoft crap, go Logitech MX 500! Whee. It's the best mouse investment ever.

My optical mouse came with my keyboard when I got my computer two and a half years ago, and it still works fine. The problem is, the cord has to stretch all the way around my desk and over my keyboard tray, so there's a fair amount of tension that pulls the cord back behind my desk, making it catch when I move the mouse. I finally solved my problem by wedging some of the cord under my keyboard, so that there's a fair amount of slack between the keyboard and the mouse itself.

Personally I love the Logitech dual-opticals. Not sure if the MX500 is one or not, but I just can't get those things to skip, no matter how hard I try. Gotta buy one for myself (instead of just ganking from a friend) when I have some more money.
MX500, I think I'm in love <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

So far, I haven't been able to make it skip yet.
yeah the dual opticals are first generation optical sensors. That means they aren't anywhere near the MX serie's precision. However, during their time, they were the best due to the fact they had two sensors. Butdon't let this fool you, it is not because they have two sensors that they are twice more precise. What the mouse does is have both sensors work and compare them to see which one seems to be more accurate. For example if one goes over a mirror (or any surface not appropriate for it) , then the other one will work and thus not skip. But the MX are just more precise that if you don't have mirrors lying under your mouse/own a good mousepad then you shouldn't need to choose dual
I've got a microsoft intellimouse with 5 butons. Although i wish i had one with button 4 and 5 on the thumb side. the little finger button is just too awkward and i never use it :\
I love using my thumb button for use though, its just so natural now that im allways dropping my gun in CS instead of defusing the bomb <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
