Since I stopped working on my siege (because with NS handling siege anims the way it does, my model looks wrong) I thought I'd make a wip thread for another thing I've been making on and off.
His animations are very buggy at the moment (lots of clipping), the JP version clocks in at a far-too-high 1650 polys, his helmet needs remaking (becasue it's 400-polys) and skinning properly, and the legs need to be reskinned because the skin's stolen from a CS model (I suck at cloth).
However, with all that in mind I'll probably release a beta of it soonish, just whenever I get the helmet and JP skins done.
(edited to put in a smaller image, and to add that the shield on the right arm is part of the weapon model)

Will this solider get smart gun anims??
Re: armour - partly that's what his shields are for, and there's a breastplate skinned on to the torso that doesn't come out well in these pics. There are also going to be some kind of leg armour type things in the final version, but I deleted the ones I'd already made because they didn't look all that great and I needed to free up some polys.
Re: the shield. I already said it's part of the weapon model, not the marine himself. My basic concept is for each weapon to have a shield of some kind attached, which should also take advantage of the transparency dlls. However, I happen to think the shield is the best thing about him, so maybe I'll model it on and then explicitly say that I don't want anyone releasing any edited versions, just to spite the doubters. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I think however that I might have to bite the bullet with the anims and accept that there's going to be some clipping no matter what. I'll be able to minimise most of it though.

This picture is quite old, and all the skinning has changed (as has the skeleton, so those leg errors you see here are gone) <i>except</i> for the torso. I've added it here so you can see the breastplate.
anyway, i hope you've got plans to beef up his torso a little, i know you've got armor in there, but i'm pretty sure it's not defined enough.
(btw i like the shield idea cause i dont think any1 has ever really tried it)
it reminds me of that old aswat model from sven co-op
