What Makes A Server Good?

<div class="IPBDescription">Why do you keep going back?</div> Just wondering, we have trouble getting regular attenders. Personally, I go to servers (other than our own) frequently that have a couple things:
-Amiable admins (Ones that don't get **** off for getting killed, for instance)
-Server Stability (probably the #1 reason we don't have regular attenders on our server, it's just too old for the CPU hog called NS) <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
-Excellent players, people I can improve myself by playing. Usually a good clan server.

- 14 players or less (prevents the huge res advantage that rines get, god its so easy to comm 8v8 +)
- no stupid pointless rules like "dont swear please wah"
- servers i'm not banned from are exellent choices for me
Those are the things i try for, but sometimes you gotta work with whats there
sometimes i go to british servers cuz i think british accents are cool. And its funny to see all the text faces koreans make kekekekeke. @_@
I will be very sorry to see the server go, but hey when you run out of "free" bandwidth, what can you do?

Oh wait, looks like they may have added a pixel to his mouth to make more of a smile? We've had problems with people and spiked models, and our clan agreed to do mp_consistency 1.
-good admins
-very few llamas
-Good admins.
-No C-D (mainly because I can't get it to work, and if you have good admins, you don't need it anyway)
-Good ping (Main place I play, I get about 150 at all times on my cable, which is high IMO, but I like the server, so I deal)
-Lerk-Lift is a bonus, and helpful for the aliens. I really feel its a balancer, and its a handy way to kill rogue noob gorges. I like the server I play on a lot because it doesn't list that it HAS lerk lift on it, which seriously cuts down on griefers, cause they don't know its there.
-No anti-swear rules, if you can't deal with swearing, you need to go play Barney games. HL==M rated game.
-Good players, noobs are boring and stupid <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
-No stupid over the top, unneeded pointless rules...like, no HMG/JP at 1 hive, or no spawn camping, or no blah blah blah blah blah.
-18 player max (+2 res doesn't really take effect till 10v10)
Basicly, if you want Regs at a server, give'em a reason to come back. Don't ban people for stupid things, warn first, give a final warning, then ban. Games are about fun, if people are just messing around for fun, let'em. Not every game has to be 100% serious all the time.

- Servers with game 'enhancements' such as cloaked buildings, giveres yatta yatta yatta that sets itself apart from the other 400+ servers out there.
- Random messages like
"The aliens are 0wn!ng. Give the marines a tutu?"

Mostly because Ars is a whole community, Plenty of good, friendly admins (almost always one available in the irc chan if nothin' else), good ping (except for today for some reason), so on and so forth.
-Low pings a bonus
-Friendly players
-Players up for a bit of fun and know not to get too over the top serious
-Llama's not tollerated
-Friendly, easy-going admin
And yeah, i play nearly constantly on "Dumb*ss Brits!" NS server, 14 player (pubs, that is) clan server full of lovely lovely people. And it's in england, so all english speaking and low pings. Which is nice.
-Stability
-Some mods (stuck and audio tracking (damn it's creepy!))
-No daft rules
-Don't get randomly kicked to allow a certain person on.
I try to play on Dumb***** Brits but it's usually full. Like you said its a good server.
-No unstuck (at the moment, though we debate it because of its abuse values)
-Some downtime (it's hosted off a nice DSL connection, but DSL doesn't come with that 99.9% uptime garentee that T1s have)
Other than that, it's a good 16 man server that sits around. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
If you guys want to check it out, we usually get on around 9-10pm EST every night or so, to try and get some people to join. I can't promise "the bestest serber eber!", but I will say we have some excellent members that will give any players a run for their play time, and generally pings ranging from 30-90 for US players. (yes, there are always exceptions....)

Speaking of lerklift, we were playing once where there was a noob gorge who didn't know where the viaduct hive was. (He found the room, just not he actual hive.) I, as a lerk, had to lift him up and plant him in front of the hive..
twice.
Less n00bs - who dont scream for things "all the time"
Avoid people that scream - "n00b gorge"- I'd do it like this/ better / "OMG hes building an OC and the third hive is not up". rather than being constructive etc.
Especially enjoy servers where there is a lot of team work - some times it happens / some times it does not.
Plus team work from aliens is kinda poor on most servers.
Oh - low ping is high on the list
i) It's nearly always full. (isn't that a good sign!)
ii) It's nearly always full with the same faces.
iii) The matches are rarely finished with a 5 minute rush.
iv) Good pings.
v) The admins are great fun, well I am guessing who the admins are, no-ones ever been kicked while I've played there.
vi) The players dont take themselves too seriously, and hand out advice when it's necessary, and compliments when they are deserved.

There always have only ever been 12 public slots, plus 4 private for admins (there are a LOT of admins!).
When 1.1 comes out I'll put it up to 18 or 20 (with 4 reserved), depending on performance.
