The Dark...

don't aliens suck in the dark?
Ever noticed that in a dark room the humans have all the advantages ? they have flashlight, MT, (some servers nigtvission) and alien have umm parasite only.. oh and that flash light key thing that lets u see your own team.

Don't you think they should have some kind of night vission ? i played some custome maps in the dark and the humans allways have the advantage cause the aliens have nothing other than enchanced site to see in the dark and even that is useless to find the paths and stuff in the dark.

It would be cool if the adv. hive sight upgrade from 1.0x was a part of normal hive sight, but none of the maps are really dark enough that this would be a real problem.

I've always liked the idea that if aliens hit "f" they get a 10% increase in the gama.... but disadvatage is that they;re eyes glow... *maybe not brigtly, but enough for a marine to see...... then an alien in a room, and a marine in a room are closer to equals.... maybe the glowing eyes are seen regardless of cloak

Oh.. and imagine the atmosphere!!! *invisions 4 pairs of glowing eyes shining at him when he walks into a room*

i played a few maps where it was realy dark. like rooms with 0 light in. but not offical maps lol. some of the offical maps get dark in areas till u max your gamma out lol

marine: *walks into a dark room*
marine: *sees 2 glowing eyes low down the ground*
marine: *thinks its a skull cause it low down*
    marine: *turns on flash light*
marine: AHHH **** its an onos!!!!
alien: *devores marine after walking up the little ramp he was on*

    YES!!! That's the spirit!!!

Oh, and in the map I'm making with Shadowics.... Well..... it would be especially nice there.... *not gunna hint ne more*

On a side note.. I think that maxing u're gamma is stupid, and ruins the game.. it pisses me off only slightly less than a h4xor! I leave mine defult, or on some computers.. TURN IT DOWN! I mean... I love the spooky feel some maps have... could we plz have a "max" max gamma in the mage to a little above the default? like 10% or 20%? *not like insaine like it is now?!

This is one of the coolest idea i've heard in a long time. Have you put it into the suggestion forum?

Whoa, that would add another layer entirely of scaryness to the marine team.

I have noticed that, quite frequently, you can lose the location of your marine opponent in the dark while he seems to be perfectly able to see (and shoot) you.

    Simple fix
alien "Flash light" should work like advanced hive sight.

Yeah... I've put it in the S&I forum.. and it got burried in 5 minutes.... the few ppl who responded, well, hated it.. b/c they said that u can just turn up u're gamma.....

And btw.. I did come up with that idea in a discussion with Shadowics...Where he got it from, I dunno.. So don't think I'm trying to steal u're idea.... but, dude.. we NEED to get this recognized by flayra, and considered.. or something like that...

On a side comment..... TRIGUN pwn3R35! I love the series.. hehe.. Vash is awesome...... Love the name, and that picture is my aim buddy icon :-p *well.. one of them*

I've found aliens have the advantage in the dark, but maybe that's just me. Remember, when marines attack, they light up like a Christmas tree, except they taste better. Aliens, they simply need to duck behind something and their superior speed and wall climbing ability should give them quite an advantage (assuming it's dark enough, and not just shadowy). I've not had problems, anyways, but then I'm mostly an ambusher.

    I too miss dark maps.
The problem is, people can always turn up gamma and adjust brightness for darkened maps. It was a problem for Gloom and is a problem for HL as well. However, I would love to see support added to NS which allows for dark maps anyways. Examples could be the ability for aliens to see in the dark or for marines to have night vision. Even if people can "cheat" by changing their gamma, potential for cheaters shouldn't dictate where NS goes. Plus there are always places in existing maps (like vents and such) which are very dark and sometimes annoying for aliens who can do a 360 and see black all around.

Read the map design guidelines. Maps are supposed to *feel* dark and gloomy, but you're supposed to be able to see without resorting to flashlight for most of the map.

The problem i have is apart from the sun glare on my screen *closes curtains* even with 3 hives if your in a dark passage or vent you cannot navigate it without ether guess work or max gamma.

In Aliens vs Predator 2 if you hit a key your vision switches over to this grey vision where you cant see any colors but you can see everything in the dark, do that

I'm always for brighter maps or other way allowing one to see better. I have the darkest moniter east of Valinor and even with max gamma and max brightness on the moniter, it's still dark to me. Question: Is there any way to up HL brightness even with the sliding bar under config:video options at max? A console command?

    sorry don't know.

Personally I have my gamma and brightness set so I can just about see everywhere, Ok i suppose the corridor leading off from hera marine spawn is almost completely black, but except for that...
