Just curious, prolly been asked before.
For some reason, although I know Im going to enjoy both at the moment what Im really looking forward to is biting some heads off as an alien.
Just wondered how everyone else felt as it'll be annoying if everyone quickly becomes alien and only those people who want to make the teams even choose marine.

Usually, I even the teams if needed though, otherwise, random team here I come!
When I first started playing, I was going Marines 4 times out of 5. I experimented with the Aliens a bit, but they felt a bit wierd coming from a CS/TFC/SI background. However, I recently was forced to play as the Aliens for a considerable amount of time, and now I cannot say which I like more. The marines give great teamplay and the weapons are beauties, but the Aliens are so intense and such a fast experience that they are both great fun.
Fine...I will XENOCIDE about 5 marines, blah blah
Comprox - I think "Divine Wind" is a more intelligent way to describe that attack than "Xenocide", which means wiping out an entire alien species and has nothing to do with an alien blowing himself up as an attack.
In AvP I loved the alien.
In TFC I play medic so I get to infect upclose and crowbar scout (I actually wrote a guide on crowbar scouting, alas I lost internet for almost a year and half so cant do it now, in my heyday I have taken out HW's on full life and armour with crowbar and they use AC... admittedly they werent clanners but not newbs either).
Sitting back with big guns and letting people walk into a spray of bullets just doesnt appeal.
I agree about the manual thing, wont ever go commander as I cant do responsibility (well I can but Im sure there will always be some one better than me for the job) but I plan to practice this thoroughly on LAN on my own before I even touch the internet. In TFC (my fave game at mo and has been for the past couple of years now) I read the manual numerous times and then played till I knew all the maps by heart before I went online. I actually know them so well (or did ) that I used to cap backwards for the fun of it (id do it with my eyes closed as well but noone could see if my eyes were closed so wasnt any fun).
Don't get me wrong though, I will spend my share of time as the aliens as well, biting off weakling marine heads.
*CHOMP*
A commander that has commanded legions and won, but does not know the current map, will fail. I think it's better to play as a grunt until you know the maps well enough to command a squad, IMHO.
I hope that with NS this will be different, that's why I would say marines. But, hey, once I notice that the teamwork doesn't appeal to me, I can still go for aliens...
Anyway, it probably doesn't matter on which side I wander through the corridors starring in awe only at the architecture, lighting and texturing work until I get ripped apart...
I've been playing teamplay MODs since I started "quaking". I don't have to play marines to be a teamplayer.
The thing is, everybody will want to try both of them, and after knowing the basics of both of them, it's very probable that they will just stick to one of the races, and then to the other, and then to the first again... It's not about getting dedicated to a race
...well... I guess ppl will just choose the race according to the way the day was! psichological phase... mood... whatever, I'll play both!
Of course the top-priority is an even game. U gotta love those! =)
As for the balanced game, the team are working hard on trying to deliver a balanced and a fun game, which are pretty much mutually inclusive. So far its very fun to play on either team, which shows how well they are doing.
But... I gotta try that alien flyer (level3?) that farts his head off and kills averybody around
ooh! And i gotta try that huge level5 rhyno too!! lol man that's got to be fun... Of course I have to start from a funny wal-climber before reaching the others he he
