You said it good, hearing about it leaves an unsatisfying hole when you look at the current version regardless of the merits of each stage of this mod. The action is now at beta except that only a few of us can actually play it yet we come here like flies to a cowpat. Its the same with Warcraft 3 and its expansion, after playing classic and then hearing about the beta so much my enjoyment of both is going to suffer. I think its best to only give out all the info just a few days before release.

If 1.1 is still several weeks away, a 1.05 server patch with just a number of the crunchy bits would surely help. But I guess this would take too much of the devs' precious time. How about a pre-release of the new maps? I know playing new maps makes NS a lot more fun for me, probably because maps you spend hours in are relatively quick to play dry (more so than, say, CS maps).

wow i didnt think my post would get so much attention (including flayra himself posting in it.) but if i came off wrong i just wanted to restate that 1.04 is no longer fun because of balance issues. 1.1 looks very promising and i cant wait for that to be released. i havent enjoyed a game as much as NS since Quake1 Team Fortress.

sure NS may have lots of bugs that need to be sorted out
but still, if you are standing face to face with a skulk you will still get the same fun out of trying to kill it as you would in 1.1
same as if your a skulk stalking a marine, or taunting one (always fun)
sure this fun side may go away a little bit when all you can do is watch marines to loop-de-loops but you can still get alot of fun out of the basic things in NS

also some comms (me being one) dont belive in cheesy tactics, i never rush jps, i try to make it so its skill based without giving my troops an unfair advantage, and even if we lose its fun for all

I read 3 words in this entire thread.

    Dissapointment
    Lose
    and Cowpat

These three words alone cause me to believe this is yet another thread that calls pessimists to it like a pidgeon to a freshly-cleaned window. I will not drink in these negative energies, but I urge you to bring out any statements that are constructive in anyway. If there is any intelligable thought besides "pie is gewd", then by all means continue on, I will stand corrected. Otherwise, seriously evaluate the validity of this thread's existance.

Don't bother responding to me personally, I most likely wont see it. If you feel the need to flame, please PM it to me and spare the forums more senseless rantings.

i feel the same way, except for bhopping being nerfed so badly. It will be so much more fun to be an alien though...

I find that I play for a while, then I'll get killed 5 times in a row by a bunny hopping marine, I'll kill him once then he'll get a jp and hmg and kill the hive. At this point I go to another server until the same thing happens, after a couple of servers I think "At least it won't happen in 1.1" and go play something else. Even a quick bhop fix would do me fine, everything else I can live with for another month but it's bhopping marines that kill 1.04 for me atm.

I'm sorry people, but your complaints about exploits and balance issues are pathetic.

Think leap exploiting is ruining the atmosphere and balance of the game?
Join a server that bans for it (which includes most servers)

    Think JP/HMG rushes are overpowered?
Hop in the commchair and DON'T use the JP/HMG rush.

Think small games are favored for aliens and large for marines?
Join a server with 14 players.

I dunno about you guys, but I'm still having a blast with 1.04. If Flayra never ever EVER upgraded NS EVER again, I would still play it because its a damn good game. If you guys need updates to introduce new guns or new abilities to keep the mod interesting, go play CS, I heard there is a tactical bullet shield coming out in the next version. Please stop trying to put down a damn good game because you are just bringing down the mentality and ruining the atmosphere of the community. Thats all I have to say, I'm kinda **** of right now.

Also, if you are one of those players that just HAS to post why they stopped playing 1.04, I would like to refer you to this thread http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...ST&f=17&t=25623

Flayra, do not get discouraged. The people here are in no means complaining about the mod, they're complaining about part of the community. People have found exploits and are being llamas and there's nothing you can do about it. It happens in every game. You ever played Jedi Outcast? The multiplayer community is one big llama, completely intent on ruining the game.

But most important to note: you have made strangers work together as a team. That is a feat that nothing else has ever pulled off.

On a lighter note, I taped a spoon to your avatar We love you Flay.

Edit: I haven't read the whole thread before I posted this, and I just saw what all these people had posted after you expressed your views. You're a diamond in the rough, Flay, and you will rise to greatness, if you haven't already. Hey, you're more popular than Gooseman as far as I know. You have much more communication with the community, which will make NS still greater. Give the peoples what they want.

Bah...I never finish my post before I actually post it. Keep up the great work Flay.

i am majorly anticipating the release of v1.1 because it seems absolutely AMAZING!

wut i think is that the dev team SHOULD NOT have mentioned 1.1 as early as they did... it only caused us to lose interest and keep complaining and asking when it would come out

1.04 is getting boring now because it is almost ALWAYS JP and HMG... if they dont get it... then ALIENS win... hardly do i see ny HA HMG/GL + welder squads nymore

I admire the work that Flayra has put into his dream.

I admire NS 1.04 in all it's glory its just a shame some asshat's have to go and spoil it for the people that enjoy it.

    GG Flayra!

There are some people that still love you (but not in that way)

In responce to .. well. this threads supposed topic.. I'm too tired to read though it so I'm not sure if the topic drifted.
I play on pubs all the time in 1.04. The game is great, I play aliens all the time and love it. All you have to do is find the right servers and stick with them. Larger more populated servers (redphive and any of those other ones..) pull in large ammounts of llmamas. The figure "lots of people play here, must be good" when some of the least enjoyable games I've played have been on these large servers.
an example of a game I played earlier on a smaller pub server, it was castlewars, a map really against large alien teams. So the admin catches on and spawns the aliens the other two hives each round using cheats. Hell, being alien at the time I found it odd. Ends up we still won, but just barely. We lost both extra hives a couple times. Without the exploit of this add hive cheat, the game would be over in a few minutes after it started. The marines would be unsatisfied with the lack of resistance and the aliens would be angry at the jp/hmg rush type thing that they were unable to fend off properly. Insted it went on for a long time, and both teams seemed to enjoy the round. Heck, the aliens only won because we got up all three hives for a few seconds (after having them taken down numerous times) and half the team went onos and rushed the marines base.

I like the other thread about the basketball players Very good analogy.

Keep up the good work Flayra. We at [Cult] like the game so much we bought an NS server

QUOTE

Are you crazy? If you actually bothered to read the entire beta forums, you would see the reason aliens are winning is because they have a couple of exploits and super strats to use... You can be rest assured these strats will be killed.

To be as bold and presumptious as you have just stated now is completely shortsighted, and is not worth a pinch of poop.

For starters, I read the beta forums extensively. Yes, I am fully aware that a large part of the alien's current pwnage is due to the onos' uber regeneration. However I'm also aware that the vets have reported that even when they applied constant pressure on alien teams, hitting their res and teching fast, the marines still lost. Hence, I think 1.1 needs a lot more work, which leads me to:

    Secondly,

QUOTE

1.1 though still has a fair way to go. As it stands though I hope some serious changes are implemented before it is unleased upon the world.

. I was basing that around the fact that the vets, as marines, are having huge problems winning games in 1.1. Hence, I think 1.1 needs some serious changes. I have complete confidence that the developers can achieve balance. My feelings on the res for frags issue in no way changes my opinion that Flayra is a superb programmer.

Thirdly, whilst 1.04 has imbalances, I don't think it's horrible, I think it's incredible. To accomplish something like NS is nothing short of brilliant; it;s combination of FPS and RTS elemants continues to amaze and impress me during every game I play.

Finally, I'm not making the blanket statement that 1.1 is going to be bad. I'm simply saying that in it's current form, it is dissapointing. That does not mean that it won't be altered and tweaked until perfection as attained. Given Flayra's previous accomplishments, I have complete faith that he will release a balanced 1.1
