Two Technical Problems

<div class="IPBDescription">Microphone + Speakers</div>First, I cannot get my microphone to work while using LINE-IN 2, it will only work when plugged into LINE-IN 1. I tried unmuting the various options in the control panel, as well as remapping the keys to LINE-IN 2, but neither approach worked, anyone have any ideas?

Second, I have a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX, and regardless of whether I am using headphone or speakers, I seem to get this strange feedback. At first I thought that it was my microphone, but it does not matter whether or not the microphone is plugged in. I get hissing, static, beeps, and all the other classic feedback noises, yet with no apparent cause for their sounding. Furhter, Natural Selection is the only game that I have this problem in, it does not affect Counter Strike or Day of Defeat.

I'm not sure you're able to use the second input line or an aux line for microphone input on the Half-Life engine. Is there a reason you can't use line #1?

Do you consistently have these sound problems? I have an SB Audigy and have had the problem you describe. However it only happens on rare occasions and it usually will only occur if I'm in server and we have a map change or everyone on the server gets transfered to a different server. It doesn't happen often, maybe 1 time in 50 to 100 map changes, and I've always been able to fix it by leaving the server and coming back.

Yeah, that was what I was afraid of, though I may have mislead you with the original description. When I have the microphone plugged into LINE-IN 1 it works fine, no problems at all.

I get the sound problem consistently, though without any discernable pattern. Some days I can play three of four games before it kicks in, and then it takes the form of full blown static. Other days, it comes and goes every couple of minutes, but it's only this light scraping noise followed by a beep. It does not do it in any other Half-Life modification, only Natural Selection.

In the Config->Audio menu there are four check boxes: CD Music (shouldn't make a difference), High Quality Sounds, A3D Hardware Support, and EAX Hardware Support. For my NS configuration I have all Four Boxes checked, although I have had tons of problems with EAX support in games (not HL/NS) causing distortion. Try checking or unchecking the various boxes and see if that helps.

I tried checking and unchecking all four of those boxes, all to no avail.

When the distortions kick in see if someone is talking over voice comm at the time (look for the little speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner). I have a suspicion that whenever you are getting the static someone is talking over voice comm. See if that is the case and if so I know there are ways to tweak voice comm and maybe we can fix it that way.

Nope, no one is talking, there is no connection there.
