Invencable D Chambers

FrostyFrosty Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15667Members
as you may or may not have noticed, the healing aura of a d chamber goes strait up, and through wallsand cealings, this is easies to tel on viaduct. now we all know there are ways to make a stucture sink through the ground, the theor is to make it sink in that manor, wait for it to auto build, and then you have d chambers that cant die, but still heal aliens and oc nearby.

I dont know if this works though, never tried it, as a mater of fact i just though of it now, but i think it should work, could some one try it and tell me

building stuff outside of the map is considered exploiting in almost all servers so don't try it

I am not starting a "what is considered exploiting" thing, BUT

I HAVE got a question though...

i.e. An alien structure sinks into the ground, we all know this happens sometimes on steep surfaces or certainplaces on the map... what DOES happen to these structures? Do they sink into infinity, do they stop sinking when they hit the outer edges of the maps parameters.

I mean, when you go into free mode in the RR, you can dive into the floor ala Matrix, and you can fly down towards the actual map/level, I mean lol, it's late now, and I just came back from the cinema, but if someone could enlighten me on this, it would be much appreciated

those structers sink to the bottom of the map and stay there. i have accidentily tested this; when building a d chamber at mess hall in nancy, it fell through the table and into the floor. i had lvl 1 cara at that time, and after about 1 min i noticed my cara went up to lvl 2. since i was the only gorge, it clearly auto-built and stayed on the bottom of the map.

They have a height limit that they can heal anyways..

yeah they do have a height limit, you can drop them out of the map in cargo bay, you know just oppoite that really long vent leading from via to cargo, there is like a small section that is good for hiding, you can drop def chambers out of the map, and they can never be killed

    Yeah they never stop falling.

Im pretty sure they do stop falling though, its like when you go outside using the stuck comand. there is a floor out there, its black, but you can build stuff on it.

Frosty - that's because you're still inside the map. "Outside the map" is the bit where much of the screen doesn't redraw itself. Where you get trails, so to speak.

Is it possible to drop a DC into the water around powersilo? if it is, does the water deal damage to them?
  • NiteowlNiteowl Join Date: 2002-09-04 Member: 1274Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
yes, you can drop any structs down there, and no, it doesn't deal damage.

in a long game, if you have the time, drop a mvmt down there, so if a fade or some other expensive alien gets stuck down there, they can take the mvmt out.

    You sure about that?

I'm pretty sure that water will kill all buildings over time.....

well, feel free to test it if it did take damage, we should be getting a "Structure is under attack" warning"

I've done it enough (mostly by pure accident) and no, they dont take damage, so they dont die... Great way to keep things alive if the marines dont know its there, and dont scan the place to siege

You can sink chambers and they will auto build and last forever. They cannot be sieged but they don't heal you. Thus, your theory won't work, however sometimes it is useful to sink 3 defence chambers, it guarentee's you level 3 defence upgrades for the rest of the game.

Well, it is in a hive, so if you drop 2... They'll just heal each other. I guess the point is kinda null, as a result.

However, there are places where things don't keep falling (found out by accident on the marines when sometimes structures sink and you can build them anyways). Those would work. Not that I'm advocating exploiting!
