It worked pretty good until the aliens started using the give res to gorge mod that had been put on the server. After that it started literaly raining OC's from gorges up high and they were pushing toward our base faster then two sieges and turrets and marines with GL's could push back.
LOL, i remember that game (if it was the same one) but we built in the vent going into comp core. I was the comm for that end bit, heh. (I'm pretty sure i've seen you around on uk servers i play on).

The best place though is behind the barrier at marine spawn on hera, (the one that leads out to the landing pad) if the comm drops a phase then a few marines can go through and build a cc and ip the rines start spawning and the aliens have no idea where u are (aslong as the comm recycles the phase). I think theres a qlitch comming from the walk through thats about 15 meters away as the fades started shooting us from there.
Out of interest I know u can drop below the walkway (i've seen the pics of mass dc leading up to the walkway,) but how do u get there?

Once, I dropped a command chair inside the "furnace" at feedwater. Aliens accidently found it eventually, but I hid there for a while, helping whoever was left alive. I wasn't the last person to die actually.
Another good spot is in feedwater, where there is a little nitch in the roof. If you jet up there, you can drop a chair and an observatory, and the aliens will never see it. I spent a good half hour up there just distress beaconing marines back in, shouting "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!" They had a hive up right under me. It was rather funny. I think eventually someone heard the distress alarm
The best place for me though, undoubted, would be the bottom of the drill shaft. Drop a comm chair, then an observatory ontop of it BEFORE building the comm chair. You can just distress marines in whenever you have enough res.
That was one of the best games, cause the marines were on a secret mission to sneak close enough to the drill shaft to build an IP. They were so scared... it was great >8D
When the aliens found me, the team kept trying to jump down to kill me... and dying. Sitting in my comm chair, I killed at least 2 onos, a fade and a bunch of skulks. In the end, I was foiled by vile bomb.
I think we managed to get an arms lab back up before they found us. And a JPs up before they killed us.
Not a bad spot, res node , easy to defend. Just a shame bout all the spores seeping through the walls <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Anyway, one time we relocated to a vent. Yes, you heard correctly. In a vent. On ns_caged, we had jetpacks and everything. Got in there, welded it up, built CC, IP...
[Edit]: But if they'd had the res to buld a siege, we would've been screwed, because the only way we could get anything but a skulk in was a giant chamber stack.

on caged, we relocated to Pumping station (outside the sewer hive). We got defeated, although we did have jetpacks and whatnot. I sent one jetpacker through the vent to Ventilation hive, in hopes that he could build a siege in the vent (the TF sank, though). At this moment I noticed my CC was the only thing left, and that it was being ravaged by 2 onos. I sent my jetpacker to the tiny ledge near the vent hive (it's a smaaaall little flat space above the resource node) and built a CC, just in time. [Funny story -- I popped out of the CC, and, with HA, knifed 2 onos in succession <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->]
The jetpacker built a CC and 2 IPs on that little ledge, and the whole team spawned, but the aliens found us. Basically, we got owned -- but not before somebody escaped to that closed-in resource node. The team rebuilt the base there. Small confines + lerk spores = marines die. Anyway, we all died, but one guy hid for a while. He died eventually <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
