1.1 Has 2 Hive Lockdowns?

the PT's/Vet's experiences :p
I was wondering, as it seems to be the biggest issue with 1.1, in the games on the beta servers, how often do marines still go for a 2 hive lockdown?

Every where i'm reading that it was flay's main intention to practically remove this aspect from the game, as aliens can still get onos and fade with 1 hive... just have limited abilities.

are 2 hive lockdowns still common? or no one bother any more, but just get the res nodes? :O

keep up the good work ya'll

Never, this never work. You have to cut aliens from ressources, or onos will just trample everywhere.

In other words, instead of having three strategically important points on a map, we now have eight or nine.

From what I understand, hive locations are merely very important locations on the map. Having turrets, mines and phase gates in the hives gives the marines a significant advantage, but they cannot just rest on their laurels and spend all their res on defenses. They must maintain an aggressive stance and prevent the kharaa from expanding too much, or else they'll be crushed with the brute force of the Onos.

I see hive holding in just about every game (that the marines win)

This is the beauty of the current model.

If you focus on denying the aliens res you can successfully prevent them from raping you with higher end evolutions. But this won't win you the game, you still need to take out hives to kill them off.

If you focus on taking out hives to kill them off then you leave yourself open to being raped by higher evolutions sooner, even if they are weaker and less skilled at 1 hive.

So you need to do both, and it's a very good comm who can balance res denial with hive destruction. We've had some great marine wins so far where it was a case of take out a node or two, then a hive, take two more nodes, then a hive and so on. And to stop them taking back hives it's certainly worth fortifying them, though that doesn't necessarily mean you won't lose them again.

In other words, while riens need to secure both res and hives, aliens only need one of those?

Nope, aliens need both also. They need res for evolutions, and hives to be able to match the ever increasing marine technology. A hive 1 Onos without carapace or celerity dies quickly. Bilebomb, a hive 2 skill, is almost essential for taking out marine outposts. This is why the model works so well, because for both sides the battlefield becomes the hives and the nodes, and whichever side does a better job of doing this has the greater chance of winning.

Hive lockdowns have been used, only after the marines fought and took a hive, not like in 1.04 when people would just lockdown hives before attacking, if the marines try and do that, they will get murdered.

Like FW said, its usually after you take a hive that you lock it down. Res is a lot more important, Aliens can totaly destroy with hive 1 abilities, so res is definetly priority. If they get an Onos fast enough, a vanilla marine can hardly even scratch him. But if that Onos doesn't show up till late game, he prolly has little chance of doing anything due to the strength of marine tech.

That doesn't make any sense to me. You'd get 2 res nodes from getting 2 hives and you'd be denying the aliens more advanced abilitys at the same time. How in the hell would that make you lose?

Because the aliens would have 6 or 7 resource nodes to your three. This will actually mean something in 1.1, if I read the reports right.

Right now a smallish marine team can save up on their 1 rt and get jp hmg ;/

Whats stopping the entire alien team from going gorge and sucking res from nozzles until they have 70 and going onos?

    The marines.

Some one in the beta forum asked the exact same question and I am quoting that response from some one.

That doesn't answer the question, I have wondered that myself does the amount of res the gorg can take from a nozzle slow the more res he has or something because it's gonna be crap if even 1 or 2 fatties can suck away on a res nozzle go onos then rape the marines.

Yes, that's correct. Did you read the changelog? A gorge can quickly go from 0 to 10 to drop an OC, go from 0 to 20 a bit slower for an upgrade chamber, take some real time to go from 0 to 45 for a hive, and wait an eternity to go from 0 to 80 and onos.

And a bunch of gorges sitting at nodes making loud noises are just that much more fun and easy to kill

hive lockdown would probably work well against sensory first aliens.

im glad they are getting this new res system for the aliens, it will fix stupid 2 hive lockdowns

like just 20mins ago i played a game where all the marines had was procesing (you know that map!)
they couldnt move from it, but we couldnt get in it(turrets, mines, marines)
it was like that for at least 45mins, they could hardly get 2 res up

but of course eventually they very slowly teched, and manage to break out a bit, they even had to resort to dropping 2 comm chairs infront of out oc's so they could build siege!

in 1.1 we would all be onos and would have owned them

i cant wait for 1.1, i want it now! so i can own marines
