Fear Of Crashing

<div class="IPBDescription">Please tell me I'm wrong</div> With the mines now being even better than before, aren't we going to see a lot more crashes as marines will be spamming mines everywhere? Or has there been introduced an overall cap on the amount of mines you can place (like webs in 1.04)? Of course the higher cost would be a deterrent too... Any thoughts?

    I'm pretty sure that they are just more powerful which are being worked on right now. Don't think it has anything to do with being more unstable. They definetely need supped down alot because they can take out a gorge with full life and armor 125/75.

    i think flayra said that the resources used on the server is about half for both windows and linux. in one of the change logs me thinks.

    not really, remember, there are no red lasers.. the red lasers is actually what did most of the server crashing.. (yes, just about anything in excess can cause problems.. ) so, i dont think it will be all that bad

    Well the thing is that mines are now destructible and explode on destruction:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->OK, mines have been changed for the next version:

    O Mines now take damage normally and have 150 hit points. They detonate when they are killed. This allows gorges to bile bomb them and to a limited extent, lerks to spike them. Skulks can try bite them if they want...
    O Mines now show up on your reticle help if you look at them (side effect more then anything else)<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    So eventually Marines will probably realise that filling their base with mines isn't the best strategy ^^

    Mines work as floor mines. A marine places them on a surface and if an alien steps on them, boom. Mines can be deadly if they catch you unaware/stacked (I've seen mine rushes on hives). However a single mine isn't instant death for skulk. I've done mine clearing as a skulk by just touching a mine, causing it to go off. Run back to heal and do it again till they are all gone.

    While they are seriously b0rked right bnow (I feel I mentioned that already, somewhere...), mines have not yet managed to crash a server I was on. In excess, they still lag, but I wager we'll see something against such excessive use, anyway.

    In normal game play, in the server that I play on, mines do not crash the server. But if the marines get bored or the server needs a restart, excessive mine placement is usually the most unique way of restarting a server. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I've always thought it was the amount of mine "objects" in one area that caused a server to crash, not the actual lasers that are created.

    I belive that the red beam which is the cause of most server crashes w/ mines have been removed...

    in short, I'm telling you I think your wrong <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
    (just like you asked)

    Does exploding mines now damage other mines, so that you can create huge chain reactions? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
