Blinking through things for benefit?
In ns_seige, and in a few other places with transparent textures, you can blink right on through to the other side. Most of the time it doesn't make much of a difference (like in the mess hall, or blinking through a wall out into space and cratering), but some of the user maps might change that. It's particularly noticable in siege, because fades use it to bypass the marine base and kill the siege farm. Is blink intended to be used like this? Was seige designed with this in mind as a valid tactic, or does it go against the intent of the mapper?

Well, siege is not a ns map endoursed by the Nsteam. It was not released with ns.
Its the mappers problem..

Blink will not work through solid objects, such as walls ..

it will however work through entities (like doors ...) some times

since a transparent "wall" is an entity ....

Yeah... then the glass should just be a func_wall_toggle... not a func_door.

....

eh, no ...

any entity

func_wall or func_wall_toggle is still an entity

As you say, most of the time its not a problem, as 'exploiting' this results in a dead fade. Mess Hall really isn't a factor, since I don't think I've EVER seen a game were that glass lasts long enough to see a fade. Its usualy eaten by the first skulk.

It's not an official map for a reason... though I don't remember it being submitted with that context in mind, so it's a moot point. You can blink up through elevators much the same way you're describing here.

Well hell, the fade used to be able to blink through walls, if I remember correct.

You can blink through the grate in the elevators on ns_nothing

Blinking thru doors and glass makes sense to me.
The marines can shoot thru walls, why can't you teleport thru certain ones?
and if the map isn't offical, then it's the map designers problem.

Omg, I would call that a sweet feature. I didn't know you could blink through shat, that's sweet. And doesn't the manual say something about Fades blinking through stuff? That'd be like, uber leet to blink into a loaded elevator, slash around a few, and then blink out to safety. I gotta try this .

you can blink up into that turning thing in vent-3C on hera. It's a nice waste of 58 res as /stuck will probably not work (I haven't made it work up there yet Possibly because I played on non /stuck-mod servers when this happened to me)
Does /stuck unstick you like both up and down? does it unstick you if you went through the roof?

ok then, if u can blink through any entity.

since most of the roof and other things are func_invisible so the commander can see through them, does that mean we can blink right through them into the void ?

I don't see why this even has to be considered an issue.

ns_nothing is a great example of a map where you can blink through doors etc. You can blink from one side of the revolving door to the other. You can also blink through the lift platform at the marine start although it works much better when your at the bottom of the shaft with the lift at the top so you blink through it from underneath. You can also blink through the large slanted door that opens upwards which is situated near the weldable vent that leads to the marine start. All these combined can give a fade on that map some great hit and run oppertunities...

Sounds like you're talking about ns_bast, not ns_nothing.

Anyone with Christopher Walken anywhere on their profile could not possibly be wrong. Therefore, Matt is correct.

Interesting logic. What if I said anybody with a "0" instead of an "o" in their name could not possibly be right?

Hmm, this seemed to die w/o an answer. Is blinking through things like doors and windows to get to a place on the map you could get to by walking an exploit?

Depends, I guess...

Do you mean things you *can't* get to by walking?

I guesss it might be considered exploit if it were things you could not get to by conventional movement, including jetpacks and lerks.

But it's only really an exploit if it gives you an advantage. For example, if you could blink outside the bridge cockpit window in ns_nancy. Marines can't hurt you. (unless they do the similar exploit)
I guess warping up in that spinney vent thing in ns_hera (hiveroom ventilation 3-c) to build d chambers and generally be impossible to get to would be an exploit.

Using blink to get up to a ledge you wouldn't have been able to get there normally by walking, but Jp/lerks/skulks can get to, is not exploit. (i.e. up to that resnode in ventilation 3-c (hera) from the ground, or that opening in the rock in that same hiveroom.)

Blinking through doors generally shouldn't be exploit, even if they're locked. (That's the whole point of fade blink.)

It will be fixed in 1.1. (Especially as blink works completely differently)
• MMZ_TorakMMZ_Torak Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 3770Members
It is kinda a moot point but it distrubed me to hear people being called exploiters for something that certainly (to me at least) seemed so much an effect of the ability.

(It was on siege btw and it was late game, marine were building in there and fades were trying to blink through the window. The admin said he would kick anyone that suceeded. Being an admin I didn't argue with him and just left the server.)

I must be skilled/retarded. I have a 100% success rate of blinking throught the glass in seige without using stuck. i have never once successfully blinked out. Last time i checks blinking out should be peice of pie.
