The role of pudgy

This has been buggin me...
I know all about this guy. He's pretty important to the Alien's battle plan, but who would actually WANT to play him?

I mean, sure you get to build stuff and get "kills" for that, but wouldn't most players rather be in the thick of it, climbing walls as a Bob or ripping Marines new ones as Blinky? I know I would.

Here is what i'm trying to say. Pudgy sounds like a really boring job and I can see that alot of people will most likely NOT want to play as him.

Maybe some of you playtesters can give me more insight on him. I haven't heard much about who plays Pudgy in any of the tests but I would like to hear from those who have. Was it fun? Did you ever feel "left out" of the action?

Ok i'm done now, waiting to hear from you.

At first I was kinda put-off about pudgy... but after having played it beyond the first week, I can so "no"... you don't feel left out of the action at all. Sometimes you almost feel like the head guy or leader when you're the only level2 on the map. He's in control of so much of the stuff that he's just begging to be played.

Basically you just feel real important as pudgy. I had some of the same fears you do right now, but it's perfect ingame.

As it is now (STC) the players can evolve and devolve between the levels of creature at their whim, as long as they have sufficient money.
A player could spend his RP to morph into a pudgy, build some structures, lay some traps, and then if he had the RP morph into a level 4 and go kill some marines.

Doh, I forgot about devolving for that purpose...

Ken, sounds like I was worried about nothing. I know if I had to, i'd play Pudgy. I was just worried one day once the NS fanbase builds to great proportions, every game would be an argument on who is to be what class etc. I wouldn't want to see that happen.

    Ok thanks for the tidbit.

Pudgy is a fun little dude. He's nice if you got a gang of Bobs out of about so you don't fear marines. Build more hives and watch the marines fall!

    Here's to the, well, Pudgy!

Pudgy sounds very much like TFC's engineer class, and if you've even played TFC, you'll agree with me that there never seems to be a shortage of Engy's at any given time. It is my experince that people enjoy playing support roles, especially if their turrets give them frags, as illustrated by this rudimentary diagram:

Except it'll be an alien turret, with spikes. Funkage.

maybe some people prefer to stay near the hive. Not everybody wants to play offence. why do you think there'd be so many volunteers for being a commander.

I think the builder should have some powerful defencive weapons. Such as traps slime or anything else he could use to defend his hive

I really feel I have to stomp on this rumor.

This is most -definitely- subject to change. I don't know if its guaranteed to change, but as far as I know the limitation to welds being breakable only by Pudgy is a BUG, not a feature.

At least as far as I know.

I dunno... looks like he's just a fast typer.

To be quite honest, I can't read his posts anymore, because the grammar makes me angry. I'm just a very picky person, though.

I think being in a support role can sometimes be more satisfying that actually being in the thick of the action. Many times while playing TCF or FLF or Firearms, I've become frustrated when playing an "assault" role, and have switched to a supportive role, like medic or artillery. I personally am not the best fragger out there, but if I can help out the best fraggers on my team, this can be very rewarding. Especially when your team is beating the other to a pulp When you're playing support roles, nothing is better than a "couldn't have done it without you" or "thanks for the help."

    and thats my 2 cents
