Alien level explanation.....
This will sound totally assanine to alot of you, but I stand by it: I need an explanation of the alien level system. I see that there is 1-5 but does that mean all aliens have the same Lvl 1, 2, 3 etc.? Or do you pick a type of alien and each type has 5 levels?

There are 5 different classes/levels of aliens. Everyone starts out as Bob, then upgrade to any of the other ones. Pudgy is a builder. Pinky flies. Blinky can "teleport". Tiny is huge.

Hmmm so does each level equal each other? Like Tiny is super strong but Pudgy is necessary to build and Pinky is good for spying?

It's a 3 Hive upgrade to the Bob, i think - the Divine Wind effect.

Bile Bomb. The level one can detonate himself, which results in massive damage for the poor marines.

Level 1: Scout/Fast Action and Gurrilla Fighting

Level 2: Builder - Stays away from combat but is nessessary to advance the tech and get higher level aliens and higher weapons and abilities

Level 3: Air Support - Strafing marines with thorns or peppering them with spore clouds

Level 4: Warrior - Main fighter as most places can't house a level 5, can also "blink" or teleport in for blitz-like assaults and retreats

Level 5: Tank - Main base/annoying marine killer, can charge with lighting fast speed and simply run over anything in his path

Each level costs more RP to evolve to.

Yes, Bob can definetly blow himself the heck up. It's absolutely devasting. You're very lucky if it only kills one Marine.

Resource points are gained by (1) killing enemies and (2) harvesting resource nodes. The more nodes/kills, the more points. RPs are also used to build structures, research upgrades, buy weapons, respawn players... it's pretty extensive. (:

As for the alien classes... every one has their place. 1-3 are pretty fragile, though, and excel in hit-and-run tactics (well, 2 excels in running like a pansy... and he's not even very good at that - don't fight as a level 2). 4 can take a bit more of a beating, while 5 is a tank.

But coil, what about the horrible builder rush of 2001? :DD
Anyway it is pretty simple to undetstand. You start off as bob, then use points to upgrade to whatever you want.

Trust me... they've fixed that problem. I tried. :|

On the alien side, killing upgrades your rank, so you suck more RP from the points. You get a trickle no matter what, but if you don't have any RP harvesters, and your enemy does, you be dead.

On the marine side, you get a trickle plus what you get for RP towers, which can be upgrade to extract it faster. Killing doesn't really give you RP.

So wait - does killing give you RP or not?

Also, if I'm understanding correctly, aliens are given a certain percentage of the total resource intake based on their rank, right? Is that rank based solely on killing ability, or is there a way for skilled builders to gain RP (especially since I'd imagine they'd need the most rp of the team)?

I realize this whole resource thing is quite hard to follow right now; it keeps changing! We have tried a zillion different resource models, and even now, we're going to try a new one this weekend. I think everyone should just hold off on the resource model questions until we know for sure how it's going to work. Thanks.

Now i'm curious to hear about what resource models they have tried, and how well they worked...

I second that motion. Let's hear about some of the wacky ideas from the past, and what the testers liked and didn't like. =]
