    i used eax once or twice, it makes it so that when yer head is un water everything gets amazingly loud and reverberating, or when yer in a metal hallway it sounds like a metal hallway... its kinda neat but serves no purpose, as it can only distort sound and make it more difficult to hear whats going on. sometimes it gets painfully loud.

    or maybe thats just my crappy soundcard.

    The HL engine "supports" EAX, but it's pratically useless. Try it on a game like Raven shield, and it's stunning.

    well i mainly got the system for those cool effects like you said above. but also i can actually hear where skulks are coming from. and to me the sounds sound kind of "different" and much more crisp and for some reason doesnt sound right like it has too much treble...

    I know what you mean... I decided to enable EAX and A3D one day. I thought it sounded crappier but I kept it on anyway... now I don't really notice any difference

    I thought it was A3D that did the underwater thingy... lol... No idea though... I'm probobly wrong...

    I tell you what though, it's great when you're underwater with it enabled and someone speaks through voicecomm <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> sound like they are garging water while trying to speak to you lol

    I brought a 5.1 sound card just for NS and its really useful. First time I used it this skulk tries to sneak up behind me, I just turned around, knew exactly where he was, a few seconds later he was dead. EAX does change the sound, although I find it makes them different rather than worse or better.

    I enjoy EAX in HL. I'm glad that it lets you hear what's behind you.

    well i can officially say WOW... i just played NS straight since my last post and the sound is different but thats because its so much better sounding and more crisp than usual. i can hear exactly where people are but the underwater does need some work <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> but yeah to EAX

    What's the deal with A3D? It is still been worked on since Aureal is pretty much gone.

    <a href='http://www.summerblue.net/games/cs_report/4_7_audibility.html' target='_blank'>A3D = hax.</a>

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Players using A3D sound are able to hear approximately twice as far as players using EAX or no 3D sound....<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Unfortunately A3D development has been abandoned for quite a while and will only work in win95/98 with aureal cards afaik. (This is why most super elite hldm/aghl players still use windows 98.) I have seen some emulators for windows XP and 2K but never had an aureal card to try them on.
