<div class="IPBDescription">Mapper needs something for a water tank</div> Hi Modellers

I'm currently working on my map ns_plato.
One of the hives is the "Bio Lab" and has some water tanks in it.
For the large tank behind the hive I'd like to have some things in it like plants weaving from side to side.

I just got the idea that JELLYFISH might be perfect to fint into the "slimy" ambience of an alien hive room.

You can see shots and infos about the map here:
<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=29168&st=15' target='_blank'>ns_plato (Mapping Forum)</a>

A small animation would be perfect.. something like "puping" themselfs up a small way up and then sinking back down... goind up again and so on...
so that i have some "living" inside the water tank besides the few bubbles.

Thx

Dunno about the jellyfish, but there are waving underwater plants in HL already that you could use. ( Look in valve/Pak0 with HLMV..

perhaps not exactly what you wanted, but it's an obvious easy solution, they're already animated and everything.

yup, i know of them and will propably use some of them.. but in fact i wanted soething special for the map that can't be found in the regular HL.. and some (maybe glowing) jellyfish would just look cool and fit the setting, too.

I thought about just using and animated texture, but that would just look way to flat.

One slight problem might be that Jellyfish tend to be translucent, almost transparent in some cases and HL models don't do transparencies yet.

Although I seem to remember reading that'll change soonish..

Maybe you could achieve a suitable effect using func see throughs set to a middle value?

( Not touched Hammer for ages, and never really used world models in it, so I'm a little fuzzy on the subject..)

Perhaps a stingray instead? Stingrays are graceful creatures, I wonder how it would look in HL, or to be more precise, NS for that matter...

Ok, most jellyfishes are partially transluescent, others aren't (just do a <a href='http://images.google.de/images?hl=de&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=jellyfish' target='_blank'>quick image search on google</a> and you'll see lot's of different colors and levels of transluescy).
So it would be no problem to have let's say jellyfish-models textured in light blue and white, or red and so on.

    A quick wireframe job.

No sniggering at the back. I only started using Milkshape last night.. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

You can make the jellyfish partially transparent by changing the render mode and FX amount of the entity that you'll use to put it in, most likely, you'll use monster_furniture and a scripted_sequence to target a nice idle anim.

I had a small shark-like model in de/flf_deep6. I also had a simple jellyfish. The shark just sort of 'swam' in-place (like a nurse shark can do when it's stationary on the bottom). The jellyfish just bobbed up and down.

Well, it does look ok.. not too bad, but not exactly what i was hoping for.
And the animation is not that good, too... as the name says it only "bobs" up and down... I'd really like some movement in it.. like contracting to got up.
