You've played on foreign servers?
Ok, everyone who plays on public servers has, on occasion, dropped into a server with mostly foreign players. Have you guys come across wierd terms for the gear, places or creatures in NS? and no, "Turrents" don't count.

I have come across some Japanese players calling the HA a "mobile suit". Funny, the description fits.

skulks = goblins

scrims = pcw (practice clan war)
• StoneburgStoneburg Join Date: 2002-11-11 Member: 8174Members
Errr.. foreign is relative, I am guessing you mean "not english speaking".

And if you only speak english the words won't make much sense to you I guess..

Did they call it "mobile suit" or whatever the japanese phrase is for mobile suit?

There's been a thread about how things in NS are called by some players.. to help newbies understand what other players mean.
There were listed things like:

Fatty = Gorge
Dogs = Skulks
Gas = Spore Cloud

and all the shortcuts like TF, MT, HA and so on...
I leave it to you to do a quick search.

omg... an American telling an European about war and political correctness? Ironic, isn't it?

It's been called clan-war or clan-match ever since I remember, so i have absolutely no problem with that.

I'd have told you to SUYF, but each to his own.

The european NS scene appears to have no problems with the term 'pcw', and i see it used more often than scrimmage.

But it's probably worth pointing out that this is a "HL-ism" and prior to playing NS i'd never heard the term. From other games i've played the most common terms have been scrimm or friendly.

I object to being called European!
I am Scottish!
Although dont really mind being called British.

Anyway PCW was a new one to me, but makes sense, scrimmage does just not sound right. But dogs sounds right (my newbie friend calls them that(yes we all laugh at him)) but prefer to call the gorge fat boy, usually call the comm sir.

Online gaming terminology not specific to NS, but Hong Kong players use on 9 (lame) and -6 (lucky/streaky) a lot.

Have seen those ones. Btw, I dunno if it's ur way to play NS but I noticed that on US servers (im french) u guys play slightly differently as we do. I mean the game often ends with HA/HMG, full upgrades and so on whereas in european game style, games are a lot shorter and we dont play onos very often. Dunno why it's like that but it is

It's most likely nothing to do with the location of the server, and simply a result of the skill levels of the players in a particular game you played at a particular time.

The US will have servers with experienced regulars and servers frequented by new players just as we have both types of server.

I'm American, and I play on American servers all the time. I've found that fatty is quite common....in fact I hear it just as much as gorge. And I've heard gas a lot too. In fact, I personally prefer calling it gas...not sure why.

Well I do get requests quite often for me, the gorge, to "*ahem self pleasure myself*" over another player to heal them. And yes, there are the general sensual sounds that go with it quite a bit. And finally yes, I am australian and play on the aussie servers exclusivly.

Take THAT United States! We've finally become more crude than you!

i often call the gorge fatty. my clan calls heal spray "jizz". (please dont yell at me for using a dirty word, people that know it already know it and those that dont yet dont!)

ive seen spore cloud called lerk fart.

to my non-gamer freinds i call skulks dogs and lerks bats to help them understand terminology.

ooh and once this guy with a british accent comming was calling the aliens bugs. like "watch out man theres a bug near you." i think he had seen too much starship troopers.
