<div class="IPBDescription">What can I do?</div> Since a few days I recieve too much e-mail spam. Just look at the picture below.
It's very annoying because I may recieve some important mails and I don't want to change my mail address because I use it for years now. I know there are some programs that delete the mails on the server but I don't want to delete real mails. Do you know how to stop that incoming ****?

    So you are asking the answer to life, universe and everything?

    It's 42 but don't tell anyone <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Theres only one way to stop it, and it has worked for me thus far. Prevention.

    I only sign up for places I think I can trust, I never subscribe and I tell my friends to ask before they give my email address.

    Thus far, I have recieved no unwanted emails from people I dont know, and I've had this Hotmail accout for quite some time now.

    The way to stop the spam? Change your email, unfortunately <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Oh, and the meaning of life the universe and everything is 42, your right there...

    But what is the ultimate question of life the universe and everything? I'll let you figure that out on your own <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    if you aint gona change your mail there is one cure:

    Delete

    All of the "spam filters" have to be set up by the mail server anyway (so unless you have acces to it) and I don't like em anyway. They will periodicly filter real stuff. as a side note none of the good ones (spamassassin) will dell any of your mail, simply move it to another folder <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    yah, I get spam from ~ 5-10 sights, I know most of them by sight and just kill em when I see em (It aint that hard) just check your email reguarly (few times a day) and NEVER try to 'unsubscribe', most spammers will take that as a 'we hit a live one here' and hammer you with more.

    Damn I used it a lot...

    (BTW I recieved 2 more spam messages since I posted that)...

    I don't use my mail frequently because I'm always on IRC but when there's some real stuff it really hurts...

    If you're using any of the Outlooks (which it looks like you are) there is a nifty feature in your Options menu called message rules

    Create a rule for Junk Mail.

    If the To: line contains any of the following...
    Shagmail, blah, blah, etc.
    Delete it

    If the subject line contains any of the following...
    Credit cards, free dvds, blah, etc.
    Delete it

    Also very useful for automatically sorting mail into folders. You should give it a try.

    Personally, I block hotmail, yahoo, mail.com, msn, AOL and pretty much any free mail service out there for my private box (only people who know me have my actual e-mail, and most junk mailers can't send mail to me), that evades a lot of spam. I set up another box to sign up for betas and correspond with online folks, so its relatively clean.

    Free ISPs tend to let spammers fill your mailbox (they <i>sell</i> your email address to them)
    Just like yours at free.fr , my account at freesurf.fr receives tons of spam , and it's hard to find the non-spam mails so I never use this address for important things. On the other hand , my wanadoo account (yes wanadoo ADSL is expensive I know that) has about 0 spam per day , 1-2 per week , and theses mostly come from past errors such as registering Shockwave stuff or exposing my address. It's worth using Wanadoo really...

    Oh , and I don't use Outlook Express either , that's one less spam factor too <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Gee, that's a real doozie. I accidentally subscribed to the general forums "post alert" deal once. I got an email for every moron that posted a stupid topic. My inbox was full the next time I went to check my email.
