New Levels Of Lameness Or Greatness?

<div class="IPBDescription">Dodgy tactics....yes more of them D:</div> I was playing on a certaint server today and after being totaly dominated by the marines (they had jp, hmg +lvl3 upgrades) they would not finish us off

If this was not anoying enough our hive defences started to take a battering from a seige but where was this seige i though to myself, well after a while of searching I found it

<img src='http://www.btinternet.com/~ross.clelland/ns_nancy0003.JPG' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

I think this is one of the lamest things iv seen since NS has come out, as skulks can not get up there unles they use the vent to the right of the pic but with a hmg camping in it and 2 or 3 Jp/HMg's floating around its imposable for lerks to get there too.

/me relaxes

Well thats my little rant over

    That's a pretty slick tactic if you ask me. I don't think it's lame at all. Perhaps if you had keeping an eye on the environment surrounding your hive that would not have happened <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If it's gotten to that point and you don't have two hives, you're screwed anyway...

    Actualy I did have a few games today were the alines came back from having 1 hive and being raped by jps and then we got the second hive up, then we got instant fades cause the res had built up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> and we won. So never say never

    wow didnt' know you could siege from there. but then i'm not surprised. a skilled commander can drop siege turrets almost anywhere, even inside crouch-sized vents. hopefully with 1.1 you can just bomb that position with fades, or gorges heh.

    It's nancy, north of port engine hive (the aliens were holding out in port, you can tell because the Po is yellow on the edge of the screenshot), in the location called cargo storage.

    I agree, thats pretty creative

    lol I did that once when there was no hope left for the team, it was pretty fun until the lerks started spraying gas all over <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Wow. n00b marines. What kinda crappy com builds sieges!? Exploit the game like its meant to be exploited and build jetpacks for gawd's sake.

    gawd jeah I mean. If j00r gona b3 lame, lame wid dah Jetpackz0rz! n00b comm!!1111one12what3@232pie111

    Actually I think that's great <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Once I was on refinery, and we created a second base to the top of refinery, right next to a built hive. By some miracle we didn't get spotted and we blasted the hive :]
    Our main base (atmos) was nearly crippled to death, but with this, we forced fades to come back to their hive. With a hive down and a healthy number of HMGs (read 2 or 3) we could take down some fades before realizing one had blinked up there and destroyed our great base.
    (continuing with my story)
    Meanwhile the HMGs have returned to atmos and got welded again, the base all set up again. We had a coupe HAs and a Jetpack go build a siege to take down Engine, while a couple of jetpacks bugged them in Refinery.

    How to say, Great job comm <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I have already seen it. That's nothing new... And it's not lame IMO.

    I wouldn't consider that lame, but it would top my chart of most annoying places to attack a marine encampment. No way one-hive aliens could touch that.

    If u were talkin about building on the other side of port hive <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->, cuz thats a lame exploit... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    this is a case of being attentive and noticing what is going on around. Sadly it is true that this is rather weak and lame and hopefully won't normally be allowed. however it's in the game and it's an option. As cheap as it is for marines to have done it...it works...and when it works, go with it. Just means there is one more thing for aliens to watch out for.
  • RyoOhkiRyoOhki Join Date: 2003-01-26 Member: 12789Members
    I got no problem whatsoever with this tactic. Congrats to the marines: it's a very fine place to build. There's no reason to be mad at the marines for being sneaky and devious; you expect them to build that seige base out in the open?
  • StoneburgStoneburg Join Date: 2002-11-11 Member: 8174Members
    I agree that the position for the siege is kosher, but if you read the original post you shouldn't be doing the standard "well you let them.. blah blah blah" thing here. They were obviously out-teched in extreme so it's not lik ethey could do much about it.

    Erm.

    From the tone of some of these posts anyone might think that this was a <b>hive</b> siege.... It isnt, and i don't think that has been made clear enough.

    This siege does no reach port engine hive. Its use in the example was simply to remove hive defenses, presumably because port had been lamed up to such an extent that they needed a siege just to get inside. That's hardly uncommon when marines have controlled the map and 2 hives for an extended period of time.

    It's an original position, and its very hard to attack, but since it doesn't actually reach anything of significant value why is it a problem?

    Lamest tactic i saw:

    It was the map with the noname, subspace and port hive. In the port hive behind the res node is a door that cannot be opened and is bend in one corner. The comm dropped a phase gate in the little room behind very close to the door and ordered the marines to build it through the door (It works just hug the door and you can build objects behind it). Then he build a tf and 2 sieges inside as soon as a marine got through the phase and then he recycled the phase. The rest of the game we had big laughs as the aliens tried to build the port hive and didn´t knew from where we sieged them. Fun aside this was the lamest tactic i ever saw since the aliens have no chance to kill those sieges.

    yeah once the rines had relocated to port (on nanogridlock or something) on ns_nancy, while the fades were wrecking their base infront of port (aux something) I saw the comm stepping out and doing that same thing with the pg at the door, but luckily after I said "exploit" and "very lame" he f4'ed. He would had been dead anyway since u can throw acid from the corner in that room...

    Actually, there are ways to do it. One is with fade acid, if you have fades. Takes a while. The other is having a gorge build there, buildings will get destroyed but the splash damage also hits the siege. a similar problem exists in the furnace near feedwater hive.

    lerk wouldn't last two seconds. if they get up there theyre not at the other hives, etc... You know I don't think it's lame at all.
  • taboofirestaboofires Join Date: 2002-11-24 Member: 9853Members
    It doesn't even come close to hitting the hive. Take a look at an overhead map and see for yourself. If anything, the commander probably didn't notice that it wouldn't reach.

    I use the ones at <a href='http://www.tribes2maps.com/ns/' target='_blank'>http://www.tribes2maps.com/ns/</a>

    i tend to agree, i don't think it can reach the hive from there. excellent tactic if it COULD, since a gorge wouldn't be able to put warning OTs .. or if he did in cargo, they prolly wouldn't go off cuz of the distance.

    LAMENESS-

    i get in CC... and i get yelled at to get out... (all 3 were from clans)

    --
    we relocate to cargo - another lame tactic on this map.
    --
    being the mature person that i am, i take it as a personal mission not to shoot a single alien (does not include structures)
    --
    i start to work on binding some of my keys... while standing in base... while this happens, two feet away from me, a skulk starts to chomp on the resource node... screaming directed in my direction insued...
    i would have responded if i wasn't "AFK"... don't yell at AFK people, it just "erks" your team off...
    --
    sitting in the middle of ventelation hive (which was building) my comander finds the need to "scan" the hive... (i'm standing in tehre, you can already see it you #$%&)
    --
    feeling the need to contribute (he gave me a JP and HMG... a waste of money on somone that isn't goung to shoot aliens)...
    i fly into red room and build half a turret.
    --
    as i fly over to powersilo, i hear them cheering that they seige killed the hive... woo hoo
    --
    i scream at the commander that i'm in powersilo... what does he do?... scan it...
    --
    after being chomped to death... the commander feels that he needs to get out, and do it himself... i, being the tool of payback, wait until he goes through the phase gante, and begin to recycle things....
    --

    just a warning to all of you out there... relocating doe NOT equil locking down a hive...yelling at people, makes them mad...

    and revenge, is worth all the screaming, being ejected, and banned (yes, banned on a first offense...this is what you get when admins abuse thier power.)

    i can't wait for 1.1, it's resource juggeling on the map will make relocating there a little less apealing.
