At a guess, 700 or so...

Then again, I bet odds are 10 - 1 that I'm totally wrong on that figure...

    I guess it's over 700 look at all that grates <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

my guess is 400 - 600 because most of your textures are scaled to fit.

some other stuff on the room,
get a new ceiling texture, preferably one that tiles better
I think you should continue the floor texture on to the grating, because otherwise those grates will eat into your planes.
Also, if you are going to have gratings made out of brushes, have light_spots underneath them pointing up instead of texture lights
and a more variation in the slanted ceiling wouldn't hurt either.

But over all, this looks good

I guess playtesters know best. Mouse takes home the blue ribbon. 574 wpoly.

On your suggestions mouse - i'll try some other texture for the ceiling, and possibly consider some spots instead of texture lighting, but i want the lava anyway... i like lava. I'm not sure what you mean about continuing the floor texture onto the grating to keep the planes down. And when you say 'variation in the slanted ceiling', do you mean to say it should be at a higher angle, or more brushes in the ceiling?

to much repetitions makes a map look boring

You can keep the lava, but use an orangey/red spot light instead of having the lava in your rad file.
As for what I meant by variation in the slanted ceiling, I was talking about the texture your using. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Ahhh.. understanding becomes me. I'll try the spots then and <i>vary</i> the textures a bit more. ^_^
and yes Zyndrome, repetition does become borring, but i just made this on the fly in about an hour and a half, so don't expect too much from it. I am working on it however.

did you cut the surfaces that you just see from out of the lava?

Nice visuals, but the two sides look way too similar... as in identical. I think it would be intresting if one of the pipes was broken and oozing lava. However, I'm unsure if that would have a negitive effect on rspeeds or not.

Ok guys. I've been playing hooky on this at home from school to work on this sucker. ^_^ (actually, seniors have the day off...) Anyway, i just have to say that i'm really proud of myself on this. And i'm sure there will still be room for improvement (like changing one of the entrances to spew lava or something like red said), but i love it so far! Here ya go. all picse <=100kb

A few questions and a comment:
    - Is that lava on the ceiling in the last pic? Or is that the skybox? And if its the skybox, are we to presume that this planet with its unearthly looking red clouds nonetheless has a breathable atmosphere? Some glass up there might seem more plausible, but it all depends on the background story of your map.
    - I like the way the grates cast 'M' shaped shadows on the walls, now you just need one to cast an 'S' and you'll have yourself a nice little pun there. Was that intentional? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    - The lighting is very cool and moody, however since this is a marine start, it almost seems too much so - the marine start ought to have a marine advantage and be nice and bright, IMHO, while the hive rooms would tend to have moodier lighting that is more beneficial to skulks. But, that's all a matter of taste.
