Lots of deaths generally = active. Lots of kills to go with those deaths usually means successful (combined with active), but not always. You can easily cause lots of damage without getting kills, and sometimes a ratio of 1:4 is actually really impressive (like if you joined a game when the enemy has HA, or jetpacks). The extremes usually indicate a problem (0-47ish), but that shouldn't be the concern of anyone expect that player and his teammates (who have to deal with him). Heckling doesn't do anything constructive, so leave it out.
It's not like scores count for anything. Try having fun instead. Or at least don't take your amusement out on others.
I usually play as a skulk. Looking at my sig you will see my playstyle. I work for the team, keeping marines busy by annoying them, diliberately stepping on mines so they waste res replacing them, paraciting marines until they work out where it is coming from (hehehehe), or just plain in-your-face attacks on the marine base to try and kill /injure as many marines as possible. The marines usually get caught up in attacking/defending the skulks that attack their bases, and if they fail to do that anyway, then sometimes their IPs get eaten <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Once I get carapace and clerity, then the game changes. Its a all-you-can-eat buffet of marines, and so the average trip to the marine base becomes much more damaging.
As I usually attack the base first, im the first to know if the marines are up to something (jp, hmg, ha) - which is very valuable to the team. Sometimes the suicide run into the base to see where that phasegate goes is very rewarding for the team.
A nice score comes as a bonus as a skulk if you are doing well. Alot of people care about their score though, or the way someone dies, how often do you see 3 or 4 lols on the screen when someone gets a parasite kill? I see it nearly every time. How often do you go to a server and see someone type !skill every 5 minutes? How many times did you get yelled at for killing "their" skulk?
Finding someone who cares about their score over anything isn't very hard to find at all, in any game.
I'll be so glad when the scoreboard goes away, simply because I think it serves no useful purpose. The kill list in the top tight, however, I think needs to stay. It's a good way to know what's happening in the game (ie if you suddenly see your gorges name pop up as dead or if you see a bunch of marines who were rushing a hive die). Plus, as Rion said, most people find it funny when some gets knifed or parasited to death. I'm all for that since usually even the person who died finds it funny.
Well u know for people who used to play CS, it aint easy not to care about the scores... I think it'll change when all the scores will be hidden in 1.1 . Really can't wait :/

I don't care about my score in CS either. I know exactly how good (or bad, depending on who you compare with) I am and don't need a scoreboard to tell me.
Those of you who complain about CS, I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, it is not the games fault, you can have the same bad experience in NS, it's about which servers you play on.
Those of you who say CS doesn't take any teamwork, I say it takes a lot more teamwork then NS to play successfully. A lot more. Just because you don't see/understand the requirement for teamwork doesn't mean it's not there. I see more teamwork on my usual CS servers then on any random NS pub.

I haven't really played CS in about a year or so. I left because of the mass cheating going on. Rare it was to find a server where someone on any team was not cheating besides me. I planned on waiting until at least the next patch to go back. I figure whenever the next one is out I'll have a good week or two to play without mass cheating. least that's the hope. I do find most NS servers a lot quieter then many of my old CS servers...wasn't ever to bad where I went for people screaming. I have seen enough annoying people in NS and voice spammers that it has kind of balanced out for me. however I have already left servers at times that i am a regular in to avoid annoying players. When all else fails...I just look for a new server. I once saw an admin ban/kick a kid a half dozen times and he just kept coming back. Eventually it was on the sreen of him joining and immediatly after...him being booted.
Hey! I just played CS for a week or so recently. I remembered why I quit that game! Tagged more than 10+ cheaters! I think that's a whole lot worse then when I was at my peak! But woooo that's a lot of hacking. 5 shots, 5 kills. What BS haha
