Tell Me About Headsets ^_^

In an effort to be a better commander/scout for Kharaa (and because I like NS so much -thank you NS team!) I want to invest in a pair of headsets. So what do you guys use? Is this okay?

Will a stand-alone mic + current speaker combo be ok?
Do they make headsets that can share the audio out port in my comp? I don't want to be constantly swapping speakers and headphones out because my computer is in a cabinet. (kinda hard to reach back there)

    You want headphones for best use with the mic. Otherwise, you end up broadcasting all the voice/explosions/etc from everyone else. I got a $20 headphone/mic combo from walmart - does the job very nicely. Headphones aren't the very best ever, but they're pretty good and the mic is plenty good.

    Oh! I didn't think about feedback. So headset it is.     Looking for cheap! That Amazon looks pretty good. Do you know if any B&M (Best Buy, Fry's, etc) stores are selling that?

    I believe Fry's, Best Buy, etc. sell them, they should. These headsets were used in the CyberAthletes tournament or whatever, like the olympics of gaming......they have CS and otehr stuff..

    I use a pair of Koss Optimus Pro-50MX headphones.. great noise-cancelling mike, sealed-cell earpieces, and a fully-adjustable padded headpiece. They look a little clunky, but they're easily studio-grade, and have a very clear pickup. The only problem is that they don't, by default, come with a foam wind-cover, so it usually picks up your breathing very easily.

    I use a cheap headset+mike from Plantronics. I believe they also do a switch to change with the press of a button from speakers to headsets. No use really unless you cant reach the sound out plug.

    In my experience DONT buy plantronics... Ive had 3 in a 1 year period and they all broke. 2 sets of plantronics hsf, one bought, the second was its replacement after the first died after 3 months. That second set died after 5 months. The third was the plantronics audio .90 which also died this time after 4 months....

    Now i use a cheapo labtec!! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    As long as you don't use your headset as an anger management tool you shouldn't have any problems.

    my labtec has outlasted those plantronics ones.... 11 months and counting....

    my plantronics is about a year old and still working fine. Do you often get angry at your headphones?

    yes, because my lab tech were peices of junk, I mean it should withstand being stepped on and the cord should be stronger so it wouldn't have gotten frayed from me setting my chair on it as easily....

    i bought a pair of panasonic sbc 840's, $130 australian, took em home, loved em for two weeks (30mm drivers mmm), then got the cord snagged round the chair and whiplashed them off the desk when i stood up, and smashed the joints. luckily harvey norman just gave me a new pair for nothing, nice people they are <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And then at Fry's they were selling OEM Hercules headsets for $1.50, so I bought that too, I guess as a spare, or if anyone can think of a reason of not using the Platronics fro whatever reason- I'll return them and use these Hercules one for now.

    I use a GameVoice headset myself (I do hate M$, don't kill me or anything). It's a actually a Plantronics Headset you can't buy anymore, great mike and good sound quality.

    The software ain't bad either, you program voice commands without having to record your voice.

    The 'puck' is nice, although there's no point to it in half-life. Still, you can alter mic volume and switch between speaker output and headphone output easily with it.

    They cost about £20 if you shop around
