Alright, Im new to the game and interested in learning how to use commander for Marines. I can't learn how to do it online in-game cause I get people saying "He's "elite" lam0r" and such to me, and calling me stupid. So I want to figure out how to do it, but I need your help. So, if you can please answer these next things asap!
1. ) Can you give me a link to a very well done tutorial about Commanding? (preferably with pictures and diagrams).
2. ) How do I get bots for this game?
3. ) Is there a way to play Commander without having to get onto a server? I would like to fiddle around with the commands if there's a way.
Anyways, thank you in advanced and I hope you can help me.

They're quite good too, don't even need to make waypoints for them.
2) same as InfinityX
3) You can play commander on a lan game, although you'd probably want some basic bots to allow you to learn from your experience.
In addition, sometimes the best way to learn is to jump in after a game's pretty much been lost by another commander and attempt to do what you can just to aid your team.
So anyway, just learn mechanics, and maybe wait till 1.1 to learn strategies. Good luck!
if you want to play online first tell them you are new at commanding and if they wouldnt mind you commanding. then most likely you wont get flamed as much and they will help you alot more. second always ask for advice after you are done with your commanding experience so you can learn from your mistakes.
Edit: also the reason IPs may not show up iis cause you dont have enuf res but im sure thats not the problem.
Did you create a game and played by yourself? If you did, you have to type in "sv_cheats 1" (without the ") in console. Then the game would start and you could play by yourself and learn a few things..
Anyway im pretty sure there's a command that makes you build in normal speed with sv_cheats on...
Can't remember the command though
And one last request is that can someone recommend me some 'newbie friendly servers'? One that I could probably try out how I'm doing and play with the big boys.
Thanks again,

Get to know the acronyms and locations on maps so when someone says build "PG in Cargo" you know what they're talking about. (Do a search in the forums if you don't know most of them)
<b>Here's my build order.</b>
- 2 IPs at start, and one armory
- Drop 2 pack of mines (to defend base)
- Then direct squad to nearest double res node or the most easily defendable hive (right from the get go mind you).
- When they get there (should be at least 2 marines, but 3 is better) have them build an RT then TF and 2 turrents.
- If there's another RT nearby that can easily be defended have them go there and build that.
- Then at home I get my observatory up and save for PGs at both locations.
- Arms lab next and get lvl 1 weapons and armor lvl 1 soon after
- Option of motion tracking next if you think your team needs it.
- Have 3 or 4 rines scope out the next hive.
- If they secure it, build PG & TF, 2 turrents, then RT, and another turrent.
- If they don't make it to the second hive build a proto and research jets.
- Upgrade armory
- Build another turrent at hive 1
- Research weapons lvl 2 & after, armor level 2
- Now get 5 rines to the second hive to try to take it again ASAP and secure it if they get it.
- If they don't get it (again!), set up siege outpost in a secure loc outside of hive 2
How to build siege outpost <!--emo&::siege::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/siege.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='siege.gif'><!--endemo-->
- Get 3 or 4 rines as close to hive 2 in a room opposite of hive (siege CAN shoot through walls you know)
- Get TF up first, 2 turrents, then PG. (Or PG first, doesn't matter. But I imagine your rines should stay alive long enough not to require backup until after the TF is up)
- Upgrade TF and add another turrent
- Get two siege cannons down after upgrade and scan hive location.
- Keep scanning. Siege won't work unless they see the hive.
- Hold down the fort for about 5 minutes until hive is down.
- Pass out a few HMGs if you think things will get messy.
- Research lvl 3 weapons then armor.
- Then for the last hive, I outfit everyone with hmg/jps or HA/welds/hmg and get all of them to the third hive loc.
- Drop meds and ammo when needed.
- And of course some things may go awry. For example if marine spawn falls, drop a CC in hive 1 and tell them to get IPs up ASAP. (You can still win this, if you control two hives)
<b>Lastly,</b>
A little tip, when placing TFs, have them built up against a wall, with turrents defending every side of the TF, because if the TF falls, you lose all your turrents.
Hope this helps.
Surprisingly I've been winning games without a headset! <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> But I hope to get one soon, because it would be nice to tell the rines in the field that's there's a skulk right behind them. Becaues by the time I type out "skulk behind you in mother" The rine is already dead ~sorry!:p
hehe
That avatar dosen't make the name justice...
Im babbling again...
Darn
I've been playing and watching a little more, and I've noticed teams sometimes like to relocate from the very start. If your team feels up to it, and you have some good shooters, the comm may follow this strat.
RELOCATE STRATEDGY
- Don't build anything in marine start.
- Instead quickly send the entire team to the point of interest. It may be a double res node area (reactor room in Tanith, atmos in Bast) or an easy to defend hive (cargo in Nothing, sub in Nancy) or possibly the double hive siege potential of proc in Hera (very risky if from the start).
- <a href='http://www.tribes2maps.com/ns/' target='_blank'>http://www.tribes2maps.com/ns/</a>
- When your team gets there, build command chair, then IP and armory.
- RT (and another RT if it's quiet) *And recycle the RT in MS if it's under attack
- And then now the option of either TF or mines to defend the new base.
- Build another IP if things get sticky.
- Then go about the game as normal (See Page 1)
- If your rines get killed on route, quickly build up marine start before the skulks start knocking on your chair.
There's also the TECHUP FAST start(ie. shoot for HMG/jet ASAP), but I'm not sure how that goes. No MT? No armor upgrades? Null defenses?
It's pretty hard to pick a stratedgy before the game starts. The way the game is played is determined on the fly and on the current map. It's kinda hard to follow a standard guide for everything because of the many variables this game throws at you <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> , and mainly due to the effectiveness of your team.
- If comming a new team, expand slowly, while building turrents every four feet <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
- If its a vet team, make a push for a relocate? Cap as many RTs as quickly as you can, all the while making a push for JP and HMG early on.
- If dealing with your average team, maybe the standard TWO hive lockdown, with TFs and PGs is best.
It's totally up to the whim of the game.
Lastly, (an adjustment to my guide on the first page) I learned that one IP is sufficient for small teams or even 7 player vet teams. Because queing up in spawn is not so much an issue when there's not enough people dying to clog up the re-spawn que. But on-the-other-hand, having a backup IP in-case the first one falls is always nice.
Hope this was helpful!

- Upgrade armory

WTH is a TURRENT!?!? <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo--> it is a TURRET! I don't mind hAx0r spelling, but it looks like you really don't know how to spell...
Anyway, check the Frontiersman <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> strategy section for more advanced Commanding strats once you know the basics of what each building does and have your controls mapped.
- Name yourself something else than NSPlayer (you already did that probably)
- Don't tell the players that you're a newbie
- Play and have fun, gain experience
- Build at base, follow other players
- Try to learn the maps and other things
This way, you won't be recognized as a newbie, maybe just a lamer (not really following orders and so on), but you will have an easier mind and more fun and experience this way...
