A Cry Out To Commanders

Diversify your Weapons
I am getting sick and tired of commanders completely forgeting that there are OTHER guns besides the HMG you can give out to jetpackers/HA marines. If you send a group of 5 or 6 marines against two-hive aliens with nothing but welders and HMG's, you deserve to lose. A coulple of umbraing lerks and a few fades can wipe the floor with your marines regardless of whether they keep themselves welded or not. A few skulks in the middle of your group can wreak certain havoc, as well, if they all start shooting each other with their HMG's in a desperate attempt to kill them. So please, the next time you command and make a HA team, don't just give out hmg's. Even a single grenade launcher can keep lerks out of your hair and drive back pesky fades and skulks, and well as tear through structures defending the hive. A shotgun or two can send that pesky skulk that gets in the middle of your group packing, as well as deter the occasional claw-happy fade that decides to do a few hit and run slashes on you.
So don't you dare call heavy armor worthless untill you actually figure out how to use it, please.

when do a HA rush i always pass out shotguns, hmgs, launchers and even leave a few lmgs. I also like to mix it up with jetpacks and ha's both attacking.

With my luck, all the n00bs will get the goodies and the good 'rines would have to be the ones stuck with LMG's....
speaking of 'rines, I dislike the whole 'rine slang for 'rines. Every time someone says 'rine in game, It gives me the frightening feeling that the Kharaa are takeing that as "Pork 'rines.." rather than "marines"

I confirm this statement
-The HMG is better than the GL on self-defence... You can shoot skulks lunging for you, but you can't shoot it without hurint gyourself with a GL...
-GL takes teamwork to use, and pubs offer little teamwork... If it was all GL, you'd have to leapfrog, with one marine firing a grenade forward, then have a 2nd marine run to that grenade, while firing another grenade, so the next marine can run over that (so that nothing will try to rush you)...
-Also, GL's don't do as much damage per time as a HMG, and has less damage capacity... One Grenade = 10 HMG shots... the whole 34 shots would = 340 HMG rounds (and HMG carries 400 rounds)... The GL has to reload for a while after every 4 shots... making it extremely slow...
-Aiming at a hive also requires better gunners... Who can estimate launch angle to hit... HMG is a lot more noob friendly...
About varying weapons, I agree... Although it's mainly SG/HMG with JP... Rarely is HA used (costs too much, and only used if we're winning and rich)... LMG's are only used by those who don't have a JP... So that those are suicide/frontline troops (used to distract incoming fire), while the JP/SG swoops past above with a point-blank shot...
Cheers,

The HMG outperforms the shotgun at any range including point blank, and kills structures more effectively.
There are only 2 reasons to take a shotgun over a HMG. Cost and style points. And style points dont win matches.

Eh, I leave the grenade launcher and shotgun user with their pistols so they can do range and close range in case of attacks, but I try to outfit all with something more scary than an LMG (nice weapon but we need scary stuff here )
Yes I have. It was interesting, bemusing, confusing and it worked. Only happened once though, half the Marines died to AoE dmg, and were a little unhappy to say the least .
When just equipping a HA team, the shotgun becomes really a useless weapon compared to the range, effectiveness of the HMG. The grenade launcher though, is a really good point. Your Heavy's can assault Offensive/defensive tower emplacements pretty much with no problem, except that it's a huge waste of HMG ammo. When you've got a GL with them, not only do you have a support fire weapon with the power to shoot around corners and through umbra, but you've also got an automatic web destroyer that can quickly and efficiently kill alien structures.
However, make sure that the GL stays in the middle of the HA/HMG pack, he's not really designed to fight at midrange against skulks unless he's got a lot of experience with the GL. On public servers, it's better if you can get him to be the weld man for your HMG's until you encounter something he's better suited for.
