If your Virii scanner is a decent one such as Norton or Macafee then it should be safe to open one with notepad and see what they contain...

Back when i was running Win2k, I found quite a few of those.

They should be safe to delete. (I did and never had any problems)

I'm telling you that I think it's a sign of more corruption to come, I'd make a backup quickly if I were you

if they were added without your knowledge, you can probably delete them. if they are neccesary, then they will re-install/download themselves

AFAIK, its something that HL makes for some reason when it crashes. So every time your HL crashes, you get a new gibberish file for zero bytes. Should be safe to delete.

thats odd doom, when my hl used to crash all the time, never got one of those... and fox, your hl must have crashed a LOT if it made that many files lol

Doom i believe it places those files in your root directory (c:/) and they all start with t3 on my computer. I'm running win98 so maybe it's different on 2k/xp/whatever...

It contains stuff like this , when you open them in wordpad.
I'd follow them on this, and make backups, just to make sure. Did you overclock your FSB ?

I know FireArms creates a lot of these zero byte files, and seeing a firearms dir in ur screenshot, I assume thats what created them.
I have 395 of these files in my HL dir, *presses delete* well not anymore.

do not worry about this, it is nothing, i have had these files, ive deleted them, they havent came back, there are of no importance, they seem to spwan when you join a game of NS for no apparent reason, but nothing to be worried about

This is nothing. I got a 700 MB "bot.txt" file from a RealBot error once. It's simple existance slowed down HL to 10 FPS until I found it and deleted it.

So yeah, if in doubt, just delete it. And cross your fingers. With a four-leaf-clover attached to your lucky rabbit's foot nearby, along with your lucky penny.
