There's a program called mkmovie which converts demo files into bmp files. This will take up a LOT of space so don't try it with big movies.

You can then use a normal video editing program t put them back together.

There's a tutorial on CSMovies i think. But don't try to do anything like the militia project. According to an interview the guy has the output for his moniter go to a video camera and then pipes it back using a video capture card or something like that.

It's a big pain to make movies from HL (or any other game for that matter). To get a smooth framerate and sound, you really need some equipment. We used a camcorder, a PAR card (a high-end AV card that can playback video quickly and can store it efficiently) and Adobe Premiere to make that video. I tried creating it using all the various HL console commands and all the utilities sprinkled around the net, but none yielded acceptable results.

I think your best bet is to find someone with a camcorder and a way to edit the footage. Good luck.

Note: The camcorder is used to record the footage directly via audio/video in, not by pointing the camera at your monitor.
