Hi,
A good friend of mine made a very nice natural-selection movie; you should give it a try. There are not much ns movies out there…
He made two versions, one in English and the other in German. You need the latest DivX 5.03 (www.divx.com) to watch it. This is his first attempt of making a movie, but I think he did a great job.
Download of both versions available at:
<a href='http://www.kiez-clan.de/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=NewDownloadsDate&selectdate=1051092784' target='_blank'>http://www.kiez-clan.de/modules.php?op=mod...date=1051092784</a>
Cheers

Aye, the same thing happens to me, other DivX movies work fine though... Maybe theres some other codec or something I need?
Edit: Looks like Windows Media Player doesn't work with it, but DivX player works fine...
than just try to update to a version >= 5.0.3
www.divx.com
The latest build is 5.0.4, it works fine in DivX. Cool movie <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Thank you for all of your positive comments...
I know my work isnt quite perfect <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->.... still took me a long time to produce it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->.
In the end i had like 20 GB raw movie data,
the final video before compressiong to DivX was 3,6 GB.
I used two tracker songs:
- "When the Heavens Fall" of Future Crew from 1994 - <a href='http://www.modarchive.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi/W/WHEN.S3M' target='_blank'>Link</a>
und
- "Razorback" of Skaven / Future Crew from 1998 - <a href='http://www.futurecrew.com/skaven/song_files/razorbck.it' target='_blank'>Link</a>
I mixed it up with Audacity.. freeware.
- The demos were recorded using the record feature of halflife...
- Sighted the demos
- Converted to BMPs using Geekplay
- Used BMP2AVI Tool for (guess) making AVI viedo files of it
- Used VirtualDUB to cut out crap scenes and to brighten it up (still uncompressed avi)
- Used Adobe Premiere 30 day trial version to mix and cut it.
- Used VirtualDUB to cut off the spectator bottom line and to compress it to DIVx format...
I am happy you like it ! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
If you have any more questions just ask <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

1. What bitrate for divx did you use? 5.0.3 NEEDS a bitrate of about 2000 or higher to make the quality look decent. For such a short movie (and resolution), i'd suggest using a bitrate of 2500. The quality would be very nice, and the filesize would still be very small.
2. The camerawork was great. Slow panning/zooming on the slow song, and more erratic movement during the fast-paced song. Believe it or not, that's a skill some people just cannot grasp.
3. The only thing that kind of bothered me were the slow motion parts. You picked great clips (and it's synched with the video, which is always nice). The problem is that when you slowed them down in Premiere, it interlaces the video. I wrote a tutorial on how to remedy that, which can be found at <a href='http://chaosfilms.dodhq.net' target='_blank'>http://chaosfilms.dodhq.net</a>. I dont think i've put it on the site yet, if not I'll do it asap sometime today. It's really quite simple, and is impressive when finished.
Great selection of music, short and sweet, very nice vid <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Glad to see some ns avi's coming along.
Indeed i encoded it with 2000kbps.
Well.. i switched off interlacing for the slow motion parts... so I am wondering if it can be done better.
Problem is that the movies frame rate isnt very high since under high load the NS server serves lesser frames...
Thats the reason a few of the slow scenes are slow and kind of laggy <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

"This summer..."
*Show marines building stuff*
"... your view of first contact will never be the same..."
*Marine loads an HMG*
"Because this summer, prepare for natural selection..."
*Show close up of onos roaring followed by many clips of ruthless alien attacks of humans from all angles thrashing them into little pieces*
*End sequence with a shot of a dead marine on the ground and an HMG laying next to him*
*Flash 6.17.03 on the screen*
"followed by many clips of ruthless alien attacks of humans from all angles thrashing them into little pieces"
the words many clips in there fill up most of the video. My guess is what he described would last 2-4 minutes.
I think I'll visit the Kiez server some time <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Hope more people are now encouraged to make such movies
Gwahir.. there should be two mirrors....
just try them ...
