Hard Question

<div class="IPBDescription">about SC player models</div> A lot of work as been going into the up and coming SC conversion pack but I am cinfused about one thing...

Will the marine be the light or heavy modle, and what of the ghost or other possible models if you thing the standard marien is a little too "big" to fit the role of light marine.

In an earlier post the argument over marine and ghost went back and forth.... according to SC ghosts would NOT be calling in standard marines for backup, though the ghost model is smaller and more representitive of a light marine. Also I found somewhere that a marine with a jetpack would look rediculous and the jetpacking light marine should probably be left to a ghost.

I dont know, asthetic or game contridiction, has anyone started making any of these models or have they considered this?

I'm all for the firebat as well. I want to keep the regular SC marine as the regular marine. I don't find it too bulky.

If the Ghost becomes the light marine i hope the ghost is a generic one that doesn't look too distinctive. It would stupid to have 15 ghosts like the girl starring in the upcoming Ghost game, running around.

Well, the model me and Tresth are working on is being made as a HA model...

I'd personally rather see civies as the LA and then the Marines as the HA. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

i use the marine model in game for the light marine and they look pretty sweet with the jet pack... i like seeing them more than the original ns models... dunno why. guess they just look more spacey to me.

i also chose them to be light armor cuz i don't see heavy very often and i just love looking at the model... it's so sweet! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

i think a bulky firebat would do nicely for HA... although having a ghost as LA and a marine as HA wouldn't be bad either.

Question aside I personally think the marine should stay light and someone should get to making a scaled down goliath for the heavy... If I only knew how to model.

Here are some ref pics of SC goliaths if anyone cares:

    <a href='http://www.starcraft.ru/art/imgs/goliath.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.starcraft.ru/art/imgs/goliath.jpg</a>

    <a href='http://www.musicaecomputer.com/wallpapers/starcraft/starcraft0009.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.musicaecomputer.com/wallpapers/...arcraft0009.jpg</a>

Um, google kept turning up random crap that definatly was not a goliath so here are some pics of ED 209 from Robocop which is generally a similar concept.

    <a href='http://www.jeffbots.com/ed_209-2.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.jeffbots.com/ed_209-2.jpg</a>

    <a href='http://www.thomasmodels.com/gallery/ed1.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.thomasmodels.com/gallery/ed1.jpg</a>

    <a href='http://www.thomasmodels.com/gallery/ed2.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.thomasmodels.com/gallery/ed2.jpg</a>

    I hope those help

Hard question to think about? Haven't we answered this already? The answer is, whatever the modellers decide.
  • NightCrawlerzNightCrawlerz Join Date: 2003-04-18 Member: 15609Members
yes it depends on weather the modelers actualy know starcraft, that will decide what they do.

that's exactly the same reason that i use it as light marine too.

i mean, sure, ghosts and civilians can be light marines, but Starcraft without those space suits marines is just not like starcraft.

    Marines have 40 hit points and cost 50 minerals.. i'm keeping them Light Armor <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

They are the Teir 1 basic unit that Terrans get.

A Fire Bat would make a nice Heavy Armor replacement

Ata a distance a marine and a fbat look EXACTLY the same save a little bit of color.
  • MelajoMelajo Join Date: 2003-04-03 Member: 15171Members
You can have light marines (featured in Starcraft: Ghost) to represent thier NS cousins and the Marines to represent thier Heavy Armor NS cousins.

i'm a little backassward on GHOST, so excuse my ignorance, but isn' t a SC marine a SC marine. i don't think there is variation of the marine. there is only the hard core bad assed trash talker that would more readily gut you with his bare hands than listen to your orders. right?

if that is the ref pic for the model, its ok. but if they use that bright red, i swear i'd change my opinion and use a ghost for marine and marine for heavy. that just looks out of place, the bright red.

The Firebat model is being a pain in the **** do to all the round objects it has (tanks, hoses, etc..) I really don't want to release a 2500 poly model. I'm trying to make it look as good as I can while keeping the polys down but it's not easy. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Oh and the goliath is out of the question, it has no hands.
  • PFCNublarPFCNublar Join Date: 2003-04-23 Member: 15792Members

I just don't understand what the problem is with coming up with an "out of armour" model for the light armour marine. Like I said when this first came up, there are a couple of cutscenes in SC where you see "normal" Terran soldiers.

Sirus is one of the few people talking sense on this issue around here.
  • PFCNublarPFCNublar Join Date: 2003-04-23 Member: 15792Members
is possible to make an extra beefy marine for the heavy and the normal marines we have now (eg: sc marines 1.2) light armored marines? it would take some creativity, but me thinks it possible. just a suggestion. extra beefy for the heavy armor, yep.
  • BronskiBronski Join Date: 2002-10-29 Member: 1702Members
If there is a regular marine, out of armor, i would like to see that. My personal preference is to not have a civilian or ghost as the regular marine.
  • MausMaus Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5599Members
<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>psst: hey, everyone - it doesn't have to be a SC model you use for LA. I'm going to use my helmetless marine, still. Maybe I'll reskin it to fit more with the other models, but it really doesn't matter.</span>

If I get things done properly, the ghost is next on my list after the ressource node/tower replacements
  • ArchuxerizerArchuxerizer Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4526Members
I don't think ghosts make very good marines. Ghosts are special stealth commando elite blah blah something units, not normal infantry.
