Yes, you're still Gordon Freeman, and yes, the story assumes you went to work for the G-Man.
Half-Life 2 takes place in a European city called "City 17."
Headcrabs will be back! Although some of the Xen aliens will be your friends?
Barney is back. And so is Half-Life's original writer, Marc Laidlaw.
While the new engine has all sorts of fancy features, it's still designed to work on lower-end machines. Apparently a 700mhz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2ghz with a GeForce4 is recommended.
The girl in the promo art is named Alyx, a daughter of a scientist who factors into the story somehow. She's not playable.
Scripted Sequences will be more interactive.
Half-Life 3 is planned, so expect another cliffhanger ending. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

A small quote from the June 8th PC Gamer, on HL2's new engine known as 'Source', and how it allows players to interact better with their environments...

wait...what? what do you mean by ...on NS' new engine known as 'Source'... this is from a HL2 preview, nothing to do with NS right? I've wet myself enough just reading the HL2 article, if this is about NS I gotta start a whole new load of laundry.

HL2 min will be PIII 700 with Tnt2
Recommended P4 2 Ghz (or Athlon xp 2000+?) with GeForce 4
o_O
EDIT: Though true, many many less bugs with the hitboxes+ hull issues(that might need the onos to be sized down a tiny bit.), plus, omg I didnt think of this, if the Source engine isn't a rumor, marines can throw boxes at skulks! How cool is that? edit2 and OMG HOW BOUT A MARINE CAN PICK UP A TURRETN ADN BE LIEK "LORK AT ME IMA GOIGN OT BAET TEH ONSO WITH THSI STICK" AND TEH ONOS WOULD BE ALL ESXPLOED EVERYWHAR AND ITWOUD BE LIEK I AER TEH ONOS KILLAR MACHEIN!!"#!"#¤!"¤%!"#%#!%/@$€{€

Yay, I can still play it on my crappy computer....
just really slow, with a bad frame rate, and graphics turned down, and constantly looking at the ground.....

Why not upgrade your comp? If I would you, I would never play a game that I have waited for so long with about 5 fps.
<b><span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'>NEVER!</span></b>
BTW Align, the thing you said about pickin up the turret and beating the onos to death was hilarious...so good, its in my sig. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

umm, because im a poor college student who can't find time to get off his lazy *** and get a job....
sigh, only a year and a half left to go....
Oooooh!
Much more anticipation builds up and I'll probably end up looking similar to the Hulk.
Lets see Carmack try to top THAT! Jeez, not even Rainbow Six had this kinda AI. I mean....wow.
I shamelessly stole it from Cmdr. Kittens :X
Doom 3 was designed to be run on a Geforce FX. Imagine how HL2 would look!

HOHO
btw that flash above isnt meant to be serious
time taken, ~10 minutes, through eating food <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
That looks more like a vacuum cleaner from the 60's than a state-of-the-art graphics accelerator.

Dont get that flashmovie, he explodes... and what?
Anyway that flashmovie looks 50times better than HL2!
I am certainly looking forward to half life 2 though, seems like they're adding an element of fear into it that for me at least, the first half life kinda lacked. I thought i'd have to go to doom3 for my only scares (will still be getting that of course), but half life 2 might be able to add some spooky moments as well <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I, for one, got scared the multiple times that a headcrab jumped at you from an unexpected place, and the very first time I played HL, when ceilings would break and drop crabs in yo FAECRAGHGAHGHAHGHGGETITOFFHEELPSARgllarsururluulrrrrrrr
then the guy says 'whats halflife'
and then hes so shocked, scared and indignant
that he
explodes
