you are very right about the ragdoll physics engine, it is being used by valve! i read it in a mag.
Its going to be great, because it doesnt use animation, it calculates where you hit the model, and it even takes the weight of the model into account.
cant wait till the 28th <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

It's already been shown to certain members of the press.
They also leaked the big news we hinted at before: Half-Life 2 will be released this year.

Note the soldier firing his rifle. Now look at the walls and note the horrible blocky lighting.
Frankly, HL2's graphics (or at the very least, the lighting) engine looks to be outdated. There's no excuse to have Quake 1 quality lighting in HL2. Of course, it can just be a developer mode lighting mis-inclusion, but something tells me that HL2 will not be all that great when it comes to graphics. Optimizations and the ability to support higher texture resolutions with full 32 bit colour support seems to be just about all they did to improve the rendering aspect of the game. I think the fans have overhyped it up, whereas Valve has kept just the right amount of hype.
*me prays they don't make it in 3D* (I just loved those excellently drawn 2d adventures)
Half Life 2 *must get new PC before it comes out* (Gordons chesthair -> lol very funny <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)
CS condition zero ragdoll dynamics are only in the cinematics. We'de all need pentium 100's
to get such stuff in real time. Takes my comp about a day to calculate a cloth falling on a table in 3D MAX <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
(either that or by 'ragdoll' they mean 'stickman')
"when's it coming out?"
- yea <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Actually the ? on my mind is if Gordons shirt will have an option to take off. (mmm chest hairs)
The models and skins on the other hand looked decent, although the shoulder on the AI helper still too polygonal. I guess they're aiming for the GF2GTS generation crowd.

My Half Life 2 PC Gamer came in the mail today.
Some interesting quick things I've read so far:
- Girl character is not playable
- Same author of story as the first Half Life
- Interactive scripted scenes
- Barney and the G-Man both get face lifts of
sorts
- There will be a Half Life 3
- Half Life 2 comes out Sept. 30
- The Plot: There is a new alien invasion and some
of the Xen aliens are now your allies.
- The game takes place in a Eastern European
city.
- The game supposedly will be able to run on a
DX6-compatible TNT card
- Mentions a more robust mod making expierence
- Cool in-game psychics
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm guessing psychics -> physics. But a TNT as a minimum requirement to be able to run HL2? Something's wrong here, considering the TNT was barely able to run Quake 2 at anything higher than 640x480. They must have some insane tessellation going on if the TNT part is not a typo. I mean, a TNT works OK with HalfLife 1, and doesn't really cut it at a decent resolution.
Last time I heard about that, was in like 98. Wasnt it supposed to be out in 99? I think theyre gonna rename it to TF: Daikatana edition.
