Reserve Slots And Other Issues.

Anoyances; Some suggestions to fix
You obviously care if you're reading this post, so i suggest you read it completly to see the complete view of your... guests. To start off, i've seen some bad things go down on servers, and good admins stop those horrific things. I thank you.

However, more and more i've seen this part of the community "slip" away from justice to pure malice. I'll say it now; those bad behavior is inexcusable for EVERYONE, not just players.

General concerns of mine are that:
1- More servers are using slot reservation, making it more difficult for players to enter into a server that has the max amount of players in it. It's not fun to click on three servers only to find out they all have 1-4 (fists of ra) reserved slots. Making the server a odd number (ex, 21) should allow for even teams, and a slot for the admin. Four slots reserved are three slots other people could use; you only need one admin.

2- Bad admins and bad players. Big issue. Cant do much but not play on these servers or ban the bad players. (yes, i know. i dont play on/with them) If you can pressure those server admins or players to shape up or ship out; DO IT. You're making the community better if you do by not tolerating such things. Boycott the server if you have to.

3- Server modifications. I am in NO WAY bashing any server modification (voogru is fun, i admit.) except those that temp ban players with the name of "NSplayer" for five minutes. Again, ask and if necessary TELL the admins that its a bad thing to do to snuff away new players.

It doesn't make the community better when you exclude new-comers to Natural Selection; it only furthers to alienate them, making them belive that "OMG, this game community sucks!!1" and possibly make them mad enough to crash the server or do something nasty to make themselves banned from the server, so they never again join it; much to the expense of other players. No one likes having the server crash except the disgruntled player.

If you have a mod like this, i IMPLORE you to completly halt use of it; shunning never helped anyone. Bar your teeth and teach the new player(s). Eventually she or he will stop asking questions and become a regular player if you supported and stood up for them. I'm sure you can do that, now, can you? (If every server taught, there would be no problem...)

4- Fun is always more important than winning. Make this a rule. If even only one player is playing to win, no one's having fun on that team. People join for a good time; not for highly competitive play. Its not like there would be a open clan match on a public server, now, would there?

Take these points into account and we can all steer clear of another game like FireArms or Counter Strike is/was... (a boring "gotta win" motivation obsessed with scores (FA's skill system) and "leetness" (obvous who this is ))

well i hate reading long things because i'm soooo lazy. i read as much as i could and here's two things i have to say/add.

    1. Never kick people out of the game to make room for a reserved slot. This happend to me once and I hate that server just for that reason. Really, it's extremely irritating to get kicked out for someone else.

    2. Stupid voogru. I got banned from it for no reason and i'm not joking. I was on the alien team all game, i didn't do anything cheap, insult anyone, exploit, annoy anyone, in fact i barely talked. I played fair too. As soon as the game ended and we went to the ready room. My screen changes and says "You have been banned from this server permenantly". I have no respect for voogru now.

We do NOT use Admin Mod, and we have never temp banned any NSPlayer. The rest of your comments aren't worth responding to.

I use a reserve system It kicks the player with the highest ping to make room for players that are fun to play with and have earned it. At peak times the only people on are reserve players. Much nicer and easier to admin this way also.

We have a lot of rules, if you don't follow the rules (they are displayed as you connect) then you will either be warned, kicked or banned. This is not bad admining, this is good admining. Why? Easy, the rules are setup to attract a specific minded player that the other players there like to play with. You want to run around using profanity do it on a server that allows that. Don't debate about the merits of freedom of speach, etc on a server or debate any other rule, eother play there or don't.

    Ok, sensing hostility...

This is a general request of you server ops.

You dont have to follow them if you dont want to... and this is only really meant to give all of us a better community; and a better game in the process.

Following the rules of a server is danm near "Painfully obvious", and if you think i dont like the voogru servers or any of the other AdminMod things or such you are sorely mistaken!

My complaint is only with certain server admins and servers who go against absolutly most or all their rules, certain AdminMod things like kicking new players (i've seen them) and servers with a HUGE amount of reserved slots or having a 24 player server having only 20 players 80% of the time because of the insane amount of reserved slots... Besides doesn't it only take one admin to make sure a server is in check? Clan games can always be played on private, passworded servers that have no affiliation with the public at any time...

98% of the time, my server is public except for like 2-3 hours in which we all join (via 14 reserved slots) and the rest is public, and ppl are OK with that.

Some servers sell reserved slots....i don't care what they do, i do what i want on my server. Requesting the community to do something (esp as old as CS and Adminmod), is just silly.

Not meaning to flame, but requesting this of us is just pointless as this topic has been beaten to death with an old stick. Its been around since Reserved slots were progammed into a MM plugin.

leave the horse alone, its dead!

Maveric, you should get your own server and run it the way you want instead of asking other server operators to conform to how you feel a server should be run.

The slots are also for server regulars; VIPs who have earned priority over Joe Random Public.

Reserved slots are a way of life now. I suggest players stop whining and adapt. To users of The All-Seeing Eye, I recommend my ASE filter.

I think Reserved Slots are fine however I would like to make one suggestions. Please if you have 1-4 reserved slots mention so in the server name so that people who dont have a slot will know when they try to connect. I cant tell you how many times I click a server to find that it has 8 reserved slots. I mean I think that is kind of over kill. It would be simple to add at the end of the server (2 RS) or (4 RS). Ive seen it on a couple and if it is 17/20 then I know I have a chance of getting in rather then '*DROPPED DUE TO SLOT RESERVATION*'.

I would just recommend using a reservation method that shows the slots as full instead of one free, its annoying as heck to see a good server you like with a single spot free, and connecting..halfway... and getting dropped for reservation. I would think it would be appreciated if the extra slot were hidden from view. allso, contrary to what many server ops think, there are more good, fun, mature, reliable players than there are slots on servers for reserved regulars. It really alienates someone when they get dropped for a regular, and they cant BECOME a regular because they keep getting
    kicked...

I totally agree with that Ulatoh. I love playing on a few servers that I play on regularly. If only I knew if it was a reserved slot or if it was open. I also follow the rules of the server that I am on.

So when I set my server up for me and my friends first and foremost (friends who I know in "real" life I mean), you're saying I should sack them off and not give them reserved slots? So when I'm playing and the server is full, my friends can't connect?

No thanks, I will continue to run my server how I see fit, if it's all the same to you.
