Anyone Else Think

the welder is underused?
I think it should be a little more useful... I think this is only a map problem (not enough weldable things) and not a gameplay issue... but i wonder if anyone else feels this way.

naw, i think it's used enough... this is natural selection, not "space plumbing"...

Haha, Space Plumbing...

I would like to see welders being used more.

Then make a map that uses welders more or play lemmings.

I use welders alot, they might not be the Ubercon power swords the use to be but the're still handy for on the spot repairs and killing Rts

they're good for killing chambers (not OC)
and the occasional welder kill, not to mention those weld spots

the welder is underused

I would like to increase the range of the welder , if now it is 1 feet ( example) make it then 2 feets or something...

Also , welders are used to repair structures , how about making the people that have welders the hability of building structures twice as fast ?

Buildings already build really quickly, i cant forsee people dropping money on a welder so you can finish a building in 1 second instead of 2.

I dont think the welder is underused, it is used enough for its purpose, welding HA, repairing buildings etc, for what do u want to use it more?

If find it underused then ask for a welder more or stop jp hmg rushing...
• XiaoXiaoXiaoXiao Join Date: 2002-11-21 Member: 9543Members
I think the welder should become standard for the HA suit....like an upgrade......it would cost cheeper...i dunno...maybe i should add this to the ideas forum.

Anyhoo, welders should be used more. Maybe making it cheeper would make people buy it more often..

I can't say that I think welders are underused. Most of the servers I play on basically spam welders after the initial expansion ends. Welders are essential for keeping forward bases alive and keeping the important HA's armored. I think they're pretty much perfect the way they are now.

Heh, pre-1.04 welders did 10 dmg per tick, instead of 7 as it is now. I believe that is quite a bit stronger than the HMG, considering the "rate of hit", and therefore JP rushing was even easier... So dont suggest a damage increase.

I would like to see welders remove parasites on marines... especialy now that motion tracking might get a litle nerf
• KarriNKarriN Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 6617Members
I can't map, but it'd be cool to see a map which had several vents leading to key positions on the map. The map would also have a central control room or something, for closing those vents. However, since the installation's main computer has crashed, you'll have to manually close (weld) the vents. Let's say when a marine triggers a floor panel (avoidable by skulks) a mapwide distress call by the crashed central computer would be heard, something like "intruders in the command center, intruders in the command center". This would inform skulks of marine presence, and if the marines couldn't repel the skulks, the welding marine wouldn't have time to close all the vents, and if they wanted to restrict alien movement, they'd have to go for it again. The control room would be dark 'n' stuff, allowing skulks to ambush a welding team. (Just a small mapping idea here)

I think that people with welders don't use them on non-HA marines enough. I have seen many games lost because the commander wasn't quick enough giving out welders, or didn't make sure that there was always enough welder running around.

So yea. Woo Welders!

yeah we must use more welders, assume australian accents and talk about bbqs and what not

Welders are used plenty considering their purpose.
• p4Prosperop4Prospero Join Date: 2002-12-04 Member: 10454Members, Constellation
I'd say the welder gets used plenty. People frequently weld each other and buildings; just like god intended. Mind you they don't run around brandishing it like a light saber, but I'm OK with that.

Bah, some maps don't even have Weld Points. How un-NS like! Guess what, KFS added a single weld point that has no real functionality to make up for eclipse's lack in v1.1! Ooh Ahh. Hehe

I like the way that Hera & Tanith have used weldpoints. The marines have more control over the environment than simply being able to weld the vent into marine start (nothing, bast, new eclipse).

Caged welds are pretty nice too. Nancy avoids the "vent into marine base only" problem, but it is still a bit lacking.

Just my personal opinion I guess =D

On the other hand, you _can_ use welders for repair/attack purpose on any map.

I'd like welders to replace the knife rather than the pistol, as with a welder the knife has no real use... I'd like to keep mah sexeh pistol thank you very much!

Welders don't seem to get used much, unless something needs welding of course. But that makes sense. Probably not used enough because noone really wants to lose their pistola.. it's their only long-ranged high-damage weapon effective against lerks or skulks hiding in vents.

It'd be awesome if it'd replace the knife instead, doubtful that it'll happen though... the whole team-work thing n stuff... support 'weapon' etc... ahwell

'Control Room' type areas, with 'Emergency Lockdown' switches would be cool.

Only accessible by welding, and near the hive.

Stuff like that creates strategically important points, which aren't hives, and therefore result in cool battles.

More of these would be very good. Weldable points is why I like Hera so much. Map manipulation is cool.

Not to mention do unspeakable acts to wild life. It's funny that the two "animal" programs that has people doing stuff to animals are both australian. Rex Hunt kisses his fish and Steve Irwin fondles crocodiles.

A map like eclipse is having few vents. And therefore not a lot to weld. It's my primary "gripe" with that map. But take Hera. Plenty of Weld action here. Same goes with Tanith. Not so many welds on Bast alas. I definitely like welds.

I personally would like to see welders used more offensively on Alien RTs, but usually peope are pressuring the hive, and the knife is still adequate enough to eliminate an RT. Who knows maybe this will change in 1.1

I'd play that game in a second.

I think it's not used enough. I really enjoy going out to weld things to stop those nasty aliens.

im told the dozens of weld points is what makes hera lag on many servers... oh well we'll see what happens in 1.1 with the "server cpu use reduction" maybe new maps will get dozens of modifiable points.
