MY m8 explained it to me last night
    i.e. in console:

bind p "say I like bunnyrabbits"

    or

    bind p "say_team I like bunnyrabbits"

    replace [p] and [I like bunnyrabbits] with what you like of course <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Do everyone a favor:
    don't use upper case only!
don't make your binds ultra long, or auto-say what you are evolving into, what gun etc etc etc
don't over-use em: keeps it more fun for others and for yourself

I only declare evolutions, eg "Evolving into Gorge" because they are actually useful in that your team-mates know when someone is going gorge or lerk or whatever and that they don't need to do it themselves and therefore you avoid having 2 gorges. I just saves time to have it say that you are evloving when you hit your evolution key rather than having to type it every time.

That brings us into something really horrible
    hehe
People who dosen't say when theyre gorging

Just a piece of friendly advice. If you use this kind of binding for ANYTHING other than reporting important stuff to your team, I'm going to rip off your limbs and beat you to death with them. This is because, no matter how funny you may think it is to have a key to say "HAHAHA I KILLED YOU I RULE!" to press every time you frag someone, the rest of the server won't think it's funny at all. Also, any witty or deeply insightful phrase (or song lyric) that you may want to repeatedly display to the world gets very stale after the fifth time everyone's seen it.

i'm using my chat_team bind for acknowledging a commander's order:
for instance, for my "k" key, i've binded it to say:
    yes sir/right away sir

for my "j" key, i've binded it to say:
lock and load, good to go.

    yupz, agree totally

Make them direct, clear but casual...

"Lock and load boys, we're moving out" etc etc etc

then you have something different, but you get the point across..

Still, I cannot stress this fact too many times:

    DO NOT OVERUSE KEYBINDS

believe me, they get boring in a while, choose your moments <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I know DoD used to have the ability to add your location to a chat message, (i think it was %L) is that a half life or DoD feature, and does ns support it? (if i've got the %L bit wrong what is it?)

No, I don't think ns supports location binds (which is a bit wierd, considering that it makes a point of showing your location on the screen). I don't know if it even supports the health and armour thingies (I haven't tried, and I don't recall seeing them anywhere).

The only message I have bound right now is a bind "KEY" "say_team /stuck" near my movement controls.

I find it really helps for blinking, especially on maps like ns_siege.

indeed , people who use "owned" style binds are annoying...
Though it would be cool to have random/cycling kill/on death/whatever text displayed using scripts , not sure if it's possible... like /say "*chomp*" "yum !" "*hicks*" "*burp*" "my stomache !" "/me vomits marines" for a skulk's munching spree <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

bah , I was just thinking about very random taunts (much like bot sayings)
or just a bind to use for special events... after all most UT players can bear the automatic taunts "loser" "die ****" "you suck" which aren't particulary funny.

Oh , and taunting a chicken marine/fade is fun too... though nothing could ever match *chuckle*
  • JowerJower Join Date: 2003-02-12 Member: 13448Members
Now you know why everyone has bot-taunts disabled...
    hehe
And it's really very different from UT seeing as how this is text chat thus clogging it up for any other usefull chats while UT is voice which dosen't clog anything seeing as how they don't got any other voicechat
Plus UT mostly dosen't have anything usefull to say
