Fog of war

If I assume correctly.... then the entire map is revealed to the commander when the round starts?  Like, he doesn't need to send out troops just to reveal map?

*restated and less confusing...
Is it true that the commander can see the entire map(without aliens and stuff his troops can't see, just basic hallway shapes and such) at the start of the round?

    I belive that the commander can only see the enemies/aliens if a marine is near an alien or if he can see it. Otherwise they just show up as invisable nothingness on the map. The full map can still be seen though.

    I can only base this off what I have read here in the forums and from the screenshots I have seen, so I could be wrong.

    You are correct, the commander can see the whole map at the start of the round. He can only see enemies/enemy buildings once a marine sees them.

    O.K I asked this in a similiar thread, but never got an answer.

    How can the commander tell what areas his troops are viewing?  <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

    I KNOW the commander can see the map/terrain/areas/rooms. But I want to know how he can tell whether or not he can "see" the area, and see the enemy buildings and players.

    Also, whatever the system for LOS (line of sight) is, does it work for ONLY what the troops see on their screens (about a 90 degree cone), a full 720 degrees AROUND the marine/camara, or just "if" marine is in room "Alien Base",
    then commander sees all objects in room "Alien Base".

    That last example would mean that, if the entire level were considered one big room by the map itself, then the commander could see everything, despite direct LOS (see through WALLS).

    So... which is it? <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

    Im not too sure, would have to ask Flay. But its not you can see alien through the walls, or hiding in every nook and cranny I know.

    Oh, its 360 around, not 720 <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    though 720 can be fun <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    The LOS for the commander only shows what your marines can actually see.  If something is behind a marine, the marine can't see it, and the commander can't see it.  So if a lone marine slowly spun around in a room full of aliens and alien structures, the commander would see things appear and disappear.

    I like that, it seems very effective towards teamplay, moving in groups etc.  much better for recon
