<div class="IPBDescription">It's an actual possibility</div>hey me and my father are planning to build a pinball machine togather (we are both big fans and buying used is so expensive, and us being geeks helps to :-P)  and we are in need of a theme/concept...one thought that crossed my mind was NS THE PINBALL GAME... so I'm posting this for various reasons...one is asking permision from flay to do it if this is the theme we choose (don't worry nothing retail private use only)  and also to ask for anyones opionions on this or suggestion to help unfluence our descion... were also thinking of counter-strike pinball (not likely)  Science and industry pinball (2 player would be a VS. game where each players actions effected the others not just score competative) and then some various non game related things like his fav movie (last star fighter) or mine (evil dead/army of darkness)

and if we do make this flay you'd be invite to give it a whirl (we live in MA also) unless your afraid of me :-P

also not only suggestions but if you think this is a good idea plz post

any suggestions though on how it should work (after we got a working setup on a CAD program we'll go into the phsyical developement).  likes scoring scales? (big or small scores)  objectives like doing this does this or doing that unlocks multiball or stuff along those lines... alot of ramps? 1 or no ramps? come on, I want peoples input. anything at all will be greatly appreciated...  (also I'll post the computer dev files when ready for developement, it's with a program called visual pinball)

just remember, while NS maps have tons of differant elevations, they don't have levers over top of each other <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

Sounds great, go for it!  I can't say I know anything about pinball game design though...

I'd love to see it when it's done, let me know if you do it. :)

Make the player 'evolve' during the game (aliens), whenever he is a higher level he gets more points.

Also, you could unlock 'commander mode' in which you must target your own marines for points???

(i really dont have a clue.. just wanted to post something)

    Awesome!!!  Hmm, let's see...

    1) Make it a 4-ball game... have every other ball be a different team (first time you play as marines, then as aliens, then marines again).  You could even have different lighting schemes (don't know how possible/feasible that is) depending on which team you are for that ball.

    2) There's a pinball game for Windows - standard MS game, I think - that has you choosing missions and then fulfilling them (hit X bumpers, hit all 3 of Y, shoot Z ramp 3 times, etc).  You could do things like that - call them waypoints, maybe - to earn resource points.

    3) There should be three "hives" and one "command center" that a player can shoot - when he has enough resource points, maybe he'd shoot these to upgrade armor/weapons or to evolve.  Of course, some waypoints could be to attack X hive or the Command Center.  An alien could shoot all 3 hives to get "3 hives online".

    4) I'm a big fan of the "rescue" things - when you fall down the side, and the machine kicks the ball back out.  Call it "ammo resupply" or "armor restore".

    5) Have "turret" targets - once they're all taken out, you can open a new ramp which is the "attack" passage?

Ok, that's enough for me.  Can you tell I like the idea?

DAAAaaamn Coil, you really got into this thing, jebus christ!

Btw, nice ideas, but i don't think that's good for your health to focus that much on one thing.

one idea we know were adding dimmin all the lights at cerain times and starting a strobe light :-P it was in attack from mars and looked very cool and made it very challanging...  I like the suggestions thank you guys... and also when the electronic version is done (won't be as complicated technically as real one, IE not as many features) I will post it to get some input and go from there

His avatar is from Princess Mononoke.  (:  And now, back on topic!!  (:

Most of my pinball insight comes from the 2 games I know very well - the Microsoft game, and the "Lethal Weapon" machine in my club's tap room.  (:

Your right!    thx!    The pinball machine sounds awesome though.   Have you made pinball machine before?   Itd be a cool thing to know how to do ya know?  Original.

Never built one before but I've done allitle maintainence and my dad has done alot and we have guides on it so between me him and the guides we can pull it off

hehe chicks dig guys who build stuff :-P even if it's as geeky as a pinball machine :-P

I draw alot of my influence from attack from mars, monopoly, and space cadet (the microshaft err soft pinball game)

ah yes forgot to say my newest plans... there are going to be bumpers to shoot (every so many shots you trigger certain things) kinda like the attack bumpers in space cadet.  as you upgrade your weapons less shots will be needed for events,  also you have score and resources, resources can be spent before each ball on weapon upgrades or building turrets (I'll splain turrets in a sec) and maybe other things as I learn more about NS.  you are going to secure resource locations that will slowly increase your resources and also constantly increase your score or give you multipliers or something...  to capture new resources you need to unlock attack alien resource area, then you will shoot a certain place to decide which one you attack, if you control all of them you can attack the hive, once you attack depending on the hive you are given tasks, one might be a minigame with the flipper buttons (but this may be too time consuming to program on a pinball machine I don't know yet) another 2 or 3 resource spots would be attack bumpers.  then after so much time if you haven't claimed a new resource zone it will be threatened and you have to hit attack flippers to defend site....  I plan on having 2-3 ramps not sure yet on how many... and who here likes the third flipper design alot of tables have I'm not crazy either way so I'm gonna just ask peoples opinions

    actually, I prefer the 4 flipper design, but I'm crazy too <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

I like what you have so far, like 4 ramps (one for each hive, and a command center) and the resource nodes (those pits that the ball falls into and then gets shot back from some obscure place that you didn't know existed until the ball goes down the drain) but... what'd be cool would be if like wossiface stated earlier, where every other ball you switched between the alien and marine team. the cool thing would be you could play against yourself- say you kicked some serious ### as a marine, and you accidentally drain the ball, then as aliens, it'll be tougher to get objectives (say, a line of targets pops up infront of a node/pit that you have to knock down before you can get to it), but the points for doing so will be higher. and if you just royally ###### on a round? then next round you'll have an easier start off! the points could be lower, but you can set things up so that when you switch teams again there will be lots of points opportunities (say for every ability structer built, it'll be one more set of targets to knock down for a mini-jackpot)

    Ooooo Idea for upgrades!

    Multi-ball
bummer that blocks the drainage hole (area between flippers)
    extra points for bumpers
reduce targets blocking objectives (or remove them entirely)
    enable all kickbacks

I LOVE the idea of a pinball machine

my favs are the 3dultra pinball series, the ORIGINAL epic megagames pinball games (android anyone?) and for the REAL ones, southpark, jurassic park, the adam's family, and james bond machines are ma favs

the only worry I have about doing alien and marine and switching between ball (or 2 player make it vs)  is that would require alot of coding and I don't know if I'm up to it...especially if we end up doing it in assembly code like many but not all pinball machines are in.  I'm probably just gonna hook it up to my computer via a USB cable so I won't need to dedicate a processor for it, just controlors for all the circutry (yes you can get usb hookups for pinball machines).

I was thinking of multiball being re-inforcements or something...this brings me to another question, should it be a standard sized machine or an over sized machine?  oversized allows more room for stuff but also runs the risk of being too cluttered, I'm thinking slightly oversized but I'm not sure

you must include a bob ramp!
a bob head is at the entrance and its mouth opens when the ramp is activated:)
okay maybe that's a bit much, would still be fun though:)

YES! One cannot have an NS related pinball machine without our favorite alien in some capacity. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
