Random Booting To Console

ok this has happened since I got Natural selection, and its bugging me. Seemingly randomly, natural selection will boot me to the console and quit the game i'm in, causing me to type retry everytime this happens, I have no clue why. I've never had this problem with any other Half life mod. I can play a whole session with this happening, or it could happen every ten minutes. It seems random with no error message. Help!

specificly your meathod of connecting to the internet (network adapter, modem, cable, DSL, etc etc etc)

It sounds sorta like network probs to me (though I really don't know)

Although the fact that this dosn't hapen with any other mod is odd.

Have you tried reinstalling?

Do you knowtice anything odd before this happens? (latency jumps, FPS drops etc?)

umm, does this happen on specific servers or is it random?

Or was that just cos I bit the crap out of the admin three times in a row and he had a bad temper?

but seriously... Is that message a normal kick, or is it the same as this thread topic?

I have the same problem but I have concluded that the kicks are caused by me overflowing thanks to my dial-up connection even tho I don't get a message

there is NO error message in console, once i got some Vmod ENA crap but that only happened once. I have cable and i am on a network, so i dunno. I've tried reinstalling NS and even reformatting my computer, did nothing. There seems to be no problem and it just SUDDENLY happens.

If possible, can you please try connecting to the 'Now We Donce' server and playing from there for a bit to see if the problem keeps occuring? I know this server very well, and have never experienced any behavior like this. Your error sounds like an overflow, C-D violation, or console kick, none of which are going to happen at this server under the usual circumstances.

This has happened to me for quite some time. I asked the same question and no one answered, but I have found something out about it, which I'm sure is the same problem. You personally don't get any error message but in the server's console this probably appears every time you drop:

"Bad Parse in Client Command"

...or something like that. I played on my friend's server and this is what he noticed. I don't understand what it means or why it is so random.

You'll be playing and then all of a sudden you see the console in front of your face...dropped from the game with the full screen console. It's good fun...

kick name is the comand to boot some one from your server (the msg is kicked from console)

So basiclly the same thing as if you typed "disconnect" happened ?

Maybe some admin changed some button of yours to disconnect ?

Yes exactly like typing the disconnect command. As far as admins changing command, highly doubtful, 'cause I've reinstalled ns a few times and configs would be alright again. It's craziness I tell ya

Sorry MonsE, i've gotten this on donce also....

I think i have narrowed it down thou, it seems that this only happens when i use voice alot. Sometimes it will be like if i'm talkin with people in the readyroom. A few times its happened when the game was like an hour or more long and there was alot going on....hence lots of voice comm.

I also tried turning on developer mode, but no other errors are shown, just dumped into console

Just wondering if anyone ever discovered what was causing this. Someone I know is suffering from this very problem, and it's very frustrating. He has installed a new video card and a new sound card. No changes.

I have this exact problem. Sometimes, I just drop. Exactly as if I am kicked, but I am not. As well, I also notice it seems to coincide with voice comm, for some reason. Any ideas?

Update: my friend switched to Direct3D instead of OpenGL and he is no longer dropping to the console after acting in the manner described in this thread. He isn't dropping to the console at all. We still don't know what's causing it, but at least he can enjoy playing NS in the meantime.
