Ns_arena

or something like that
The whole idea is NOT to kill the enemy team like normal ns, but players get into a huge arena type of thing where they kill each other. The idea is from ready room, to.. well... a preparation room, then to the arena. There can be Res nozzles in the arena, but there would be rts in the "prep room," as the idea is to have groups fight each other, not "exterminate."

It would lose some of the "NS"-iness, but it would be fun

tell me if someone started a topic like that.

i am 100% unsure, maybe when the admin decides to change level?

i like the zapping thing to make sure only members of 1 team can get in. there will probably be a few things in the center to encourage fighting and holding, like the aliens 3rd hive, res nodes, blah, more blah.

i suck at mapping, so someone would else have to make it. Maybe there can be a few levels, starting with ns_arena_"level." some could be outdoors (or open), which would give lerks and jp advantages, and gls and fades disadvantages. While indoors (or closed, normal ns levels) would give fades and gls advantages. Maybe someone else could start a level, and unless i learn how to make levels, then maybe it wont happen.

what tool do you use to make levels, i havent done it before, so im not sure if i could make a good map.

but ill try a basic one.

yeah, i agree, cool triggers, (maybe traps?), if i get level made, ill probably fix it so there are all sorts of great triggers, (although you should tell me what other stuff you want me to add, so i get the idea).

anyway, need to know what tool to use and i will get started.

cant guarentee the best, but maybe ill start a trend.

I find that "fun" maps in ns tend not to work.

sure they do. fun maps give you a break from the standard playstyle. same with custom maps. thats why i love mbgames

Funny idea. Just all out deathmatch with NS. I wouldnt put the 3rd hive in the arena because that wouldnt be really fair. You need those onos to counter large packs of heavies.

Just an all out resource war. Maybe you could add some objective for both sides. Aliens that have to chew away 6 items to entirely blow up (including buildings) the marine spawn. Marines would have to weld six other things to finally get to push a button to do the same for the aliens? This would win the game for one side. Or maybe make those six things the same for each side? So if you just weld one button/item you would have to chose to go on to the next or defend this one to prevent the aliens from opening it.

Sounds like a good fun map. Just easy gunning to get away from the usual team and strategic play. Allthough if you add objectives to win it might become team/strategic play again....

    good luck.

I actually had the same idea several weeks ago and have a beta running on the "24/7 NS_Siege005 -=Natural Selection v1.04=-" server. It's not in the regular rotation since it never ends, so you have to ask an admin to play it... a list of admins is in the server message. The current beta is ns_arena_beta04.

I gave each base 16 res and plenty of room to build. The aliens start the map with all three hives built. Teleporters from the bases drop into a separate observer areas for each team so that you can watch the arena action (somewhat) safely. I say "somewhat" because lerks (spore) and fades (bile) can shoot thru glass. Teleporters from the observer areas drop into the arena. Once you are in the arena... the only way out is death.

From the responses I've gotten, most people that play it think it's fun. There are a few non-regulars that drop in looking for a "standard" ns game that don't... Come by and check it out.

FYI... I also have another non-ns_arena type map that we play also called ns_assault. It's currently in late beta and is similar to a ns_siege005 playstyle. The two sides are separated by forcefield doors that open 5 minutes after the round starts. Each base has its own 9 res nodes but there are 8 more res nodes spread throughout the middle area that is unreachable until the 5 minute doors open. The aliens start with 2 hives built. It's a completely different game than the official maps, but if you like playing maps like ns_siege005 then you will probably like this one.

I would appreciate feedback on either map... send it to ns_creepy@hotmail.com.

to dont let the aliens get in spawn for marines and vise versa just pu a func_push , then a corner ( for projectiles ) then another punc _push. and THEN the arena... is this said ? i didnt feel like reading

this seems to be the type of map i want to make, although ill probably make a "Second Ready Room," this room being to far away for biles and spores to hit.

i think the aliens might get a slight advantage unless i set up at least 1 ip and an armory, as 16 res seems to be a good number, but the aliens will only have to build 21 buildings for max power ups and res, marines will need to build 15 res, at least 1 ip (unless they start with 1-5), a proto lab, an arms lab, an observatory, and thats about it.

i think both sides will start with all buildings, and hopefully all upgrades, if not, then marines start with all buildings and aliens with 2 hives, (so onis dont rush out while marines reseach ha).

    lets start a mapping trend!!!
