    Well, i like 2.4.19... it improved the performance and is very stable...
    i have(and also cjm i think) have found that for us 2.4.20 was VERY un-stable.

    It's the best for a NS box or for all the HL mod?

    It improves everything imo, esp HLDS <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I run 2.4.20 on my box, and it is very stable. It all depends on your distro and how you have it set up.

    Its more the compile options than the kernel version that makes the difference. But generally newest stable kernel is best.

    well i was running .20 but it wasn't very stable with the preemptive patch. But i'm haveing alot of luck with .19 w/preemption.

    But right now i am running .20 (vanilla + openmosix) and it seems pretty stable as well once you get the openmosix running correctly..grr.

    .19-.20 are both good releases, but use .19 if you are going to use the preemptive patch (which does help performance)

    From a recent post on the Postfix-users list. I don't vouch for the content, but Ralf is a smart and honest man, so I trust his judgement:

    We use 2.4.19-ac4 (with the ptrace bug fixed) and 2.4.20-ac1 on our
    production systems.

    If you're feeling lucky, you can try 2.4.21preX with the ext3/htree
    patches.

    My system is running .20 with the preemptive patch with no problems whatsoever. It is definitely more about your customizing than the kernel than anything.

    well i think its more the libs and your gcc you compile against.

    kernels are suppose to be built with 2.95.3 gcc (not 3.2) so this could be another factor as well (from kernel.org)
