Weapon buffs....

Will ns appeal to them types?
Wow i haven't posted in a long time, and look where this board has gone. But lemme get to my question...

My friend and a few others are big time weapon buffs, and like mods like DoD, Firearms, Navy Seals of Quake III (even though my friend ####### bout it), etc. And I was just wondering how much will this appeal to people like them. Theres been other mods Ive tried to get my friends involved in and hasn't worked. Just hoping i won't be playing NS by myself.

Whats everyones thoughts?

    I don't think so.

NS is about the gameplay, not weapons.

Currently theres only the Light Machine Gun, HMG, shotgun, pistol, knife and a welder (although not really a weapon).

However, all things are subject to change.

NS is not a weapons mod. There are more than enough of those already. But don't worry, im sure there will not be any unbelievers come release.

As a weapon buff myself, I can say I'm totally thrilled by NS. I'm also a sci-fi buff, though. That may have something to do with it. I've gotten a couple of other weapon buffs into it but they'll probably only play the Marines. Their loss.

Yeah, I think those folks who get their jollies drooling over real-world guns, arguing over which is better, etc. won't get much out of NS.

True, but if they didnt get into firearms, mayeb they just don't like the way the weapons sound and feel. Ns weapons feel deadly and each shot is an audio work of art. The NS weapons are the most satisfying to use of any mod I have played (though the DOD sniper rifle comes close). I don't know though, their aren't any "real World" weapons in the specific sense of the word. Let em give it a try and see what they think upon release. Im pretty sure that NS will addict anyone who can get a nice gleaming shotty in their hands.

I plan just to basically rip through people with whatever medium type machine gun there is. I wish they put in a sniper rifle. High power, slow fire rate, but high power as I said, maybe even put a heat sensor on it, so you can see those bobs sneakin across pipes and take em out. Just thinking it would be fun. I do dislike the grenade launcher though, the idea of a grenade launcher mostly, it's more of a have fun weapon than anything else, like the para, few people truly use it with skill, it will turn into a spam machine like demomans in tfc on dustbowl.

NS maps are mostly indoors and fairly cramped, so you're not gonna get much of a chance to use a sniper rifle. Trust me. Besides, snipers are usually loners who stay put and try to pick off enemies, while the rest of their teammates run around and skirmish. This really doesn't fit well with NS, in which the marines are expected to flock together in order to survive.

As for the grenade launcher, I haven't gotten to use it much but I see it as a high-yield weapon that the marines can use to take out masses of alien structures, and more cheaply than using a nuke. I don't think it's much use against the faster aliens, but it could be used to good effect on the Level 5.

In short, Natural Selection's weapons are intended to fill some very well-defined gameplay role, not to realistically model existing weapons that may be very similar to weapons that are already implement. So yeah, if you get your kicks out of using and simulating real guns, you may want to look somewhere else. But if you enjoy using today's gun models so much, I almost have to ask what you're doing looking at a mod set in the future.

I don't know about the nadelauncher being a 'skillweapon', but it surely is usefull and fun.

Keep in mind that the marines aren't all that dependant on skill, so the most guys who like accurate weapon simulation (recoil etc.) won't be really happy about them.

If you want to snipe, be a level-3 alien. Argh. No more sniper rifle discussions!!!

Yeah, NS is really not a weapons mod, but for a reason, the weapons ARE NOT BORING. They are very fun to use and have a sense of long-lasting appeal.

While not real guns, they are cool little suckers. Kudos to the modelers.

I don't know about weapon buffs in particular, but military buffs should have a blast with this game, especially the marine side.

A sniper might be a healthy addition to gameplay... but then again, it might encourage anti-teamwork. As a support class, sure, having one of those behind the front lines would be invaluable in taking out Bobs and such, although any sniper rifle would need to have some sort of obvious trail to it so the user couldn't just hide and snipe.

There will not be a sniper rifle in NS. The maps (cramped, internal, winding installations) aren't designed for it. The gameplay (teamwork) doesn't support it. The enemy (really fast aliens with killer melee attacks) are deadly to snipers - miss once, you're done.

Search the forums; there have been many discussions, and the end result has been the same every time.

From what I heard they are too fast to pin down with a sniper rifle so quit taking about it cause it will be crap to use it.

It's hard to follow something quick with a scope. And a little alien that runs and jumps off walls is definatly fast.

Are there going to be any weaps added to NS in future version? The ones already there are great, but having new weapons to look foward to would ease the wait between version.

im not sure whether there will be new weapons in the future, though i assume that yes, should decent enough ideas be presented to the team or thought of by them, also, to adress the issue of weapon recoil, i think we can easily understand why there is none, considering the fackt that the marine team is equpied in their nifty armour which is bound to be equiped with some kind of recoil reducing gadget, such as small stabilizing servos or something to that effect,

p.s i just remembered, eventually there will be a flame thrower.

the main reason i joined the NS team is because its not a weapons mod. sick to death of them.

My all time favourite weapon in AvP and AvP2 is the flamethrower... in any game that I play, I see a flame, I grab it.. so that is about the only thing I will miss about NS.. and as such, I'll be a devoted vent-crawling-headbiting-sneaky-little-bastage son of a alien.

Heh. I'm a huge FT fan myself.

But give us a chance - if every cool weapon went in version 1, there'd no reason to make version 2...

Since there is a shotty club, I'll go ahead and start a FT club then.

All u need to do is send 99.95 $ to me

nah, but the FT is really needed.. It would make me shed tears.. and thenthe fact that untill I get one, I'll be crawling around on my four spikey legs, biting heads off of MonsE here, it'd be in his most interest to get me that FT no?.. aawwww crap!
