<div class="IPBDescription">Weekend of june 2st</div>I have a special treat for everyone: 15 new screenshots from this weekend's playtest!  This weekend saw the first playtesting of Yamazaki's ns_penumbra and N@rby's ns_freon.  We also saw tons of new artwork, including more view models for the marines and the first ever, level 1 view model!  His jaws are incredibly scary, especially the way the snap shut around your view when you bite.  They are perhaps a little big right now, but one thing's for sure, they add a lot of immersion to NS.

    Those are... without a doubt... the best screenshots I've ever seen for this game. They really capture the feel of the gameplay NS has got going right now. Amazing.

    BTW, if you think those teeth look cool in a picture... just you wait until you see them bite down on the screen with the corresponding sound. Wow.

    (Gwahir, once you see those teeth in action, you won't even <i>care</i> that about the unrealisticness of your sight coming from in his mouth.     incredible shots, but I'm not sure I like the fact thsoe teeth are showing all the time, maybe only let them show if you press the attack button?  Anyway PT'ers already convinced me it's really cool, so maybe it's not that bad d:)

    Does anyone remember Red Dwarf, series 3, the episode called Polymorph?  The Polymorph's POV looked like those jaws, it gives me trouble taking them seriously.

    Penumbra and Freon never seem to be running when i'm on the server <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->

    The 'smoke rings' are the alien hive sight, showing the positions of other aliens.

    I have to say I love the jaws, it doesn't really matter to me that they're "unrealistic". Yes, they kind of remind me of Red Dwarf's polymorph also, but they remind me of Aliens more, which is a good thing.

    If you think about how to better convey a bite attack in the first person, let me know. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->  Cory and I have talked about this for awhile, and this is what we came up with.  The only other decent approach is showing his snout on the bottom of the screen, but that's not nearly as exciting and it would look pretty strange I think.

    You do need to suspend some disbelief when you use them. BUt doing it this way is basically the only way to have animated alien teeth attacks. Otherwise you'd just have the unmoving snout poking out, and no way to see the lower jaw working...

    I was wondering how you would see yourself as an alien after the thread earlier about looking down and stuff.
    Afterall just charging someone with no weapon or arms infront of you would feel like running into someone in half-life, it would feel silly as hell.

    Apart from having teeth etc, the only other way I could think of doing it would be to switch to a 3rd person view just behind the head when playing as alien or when charging or something.

    I think those theeth look good though, when the marines are in your sights it will seem as though they are more than in your sights and ready to be pounced at, but that they are perfect for your next snack.

    It's tricky.  Especially when the jaws close, because then all you're seeing is the inside of your mouth.  However, I think it encourages people to play smart.  Wait for the right moment to pounce, instead of just rushing in helter skelter.
    And with those teeth closing and the sound they make, you're certainly not going to feel like you're just "bumping into" someone.

    I see you have corrected the alignment for the Heavy Machine Gun (or im just blind) looks really great !

    I've been following this modifications development for a couple months now and after looking at those screenshots I just have to give all of the Natural Selection team a "Good Job".  Can't wait to see the other alien models and features you have yet to unveil.

    WOW!!!  I swear, these shots get better and better.  I got my brother excited about the game finally with these shots.  He ussually doesnt get excited unless its already hands on too.  Really Good stuff, and the jaws seem like the best solution to me too.

    First I thought those jaws don't do good, as they are a bit unrealistic, cause BOB's eyes are not in his mouth (as you guessed).


    But now I think they are awesome. And if it really looks even more great in game while biting then I can't wait.

    Those jaws come near to being the best view model ever made for any half-life mod.  They are absolutly birlliant ingame!

    Well if any of you played Rise of the triad, it had a dog mode, you could only see the snout,you could see you were biting if you attacted tho, maybe try it with the level 1 and see if it works? it also had an licking animation, but don't think bob will be licking his snout d:)

    I remember reading about this mod a LONG time ago. I used to go by the name Ferret but I don't remember posting here. Now I go by F3rret, because there are a lot of people who already use Ferret.

    I'm Canadian, if that helps at all. Where was this other Ferret from?

    Hmm well, i finally decided to post something in these boards (horray for me&#33<!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo--> and i just  wanted to tell u guys that it looks like its gonna be a killer mod. Ive been watching it develop for months now, but i really havent had much time to post or anything.

    I have a question though, how good will the teamplay be? i know lots of mods out there that try to focus on teamplay but fail miserably because they cant predict players who just abuse certain classes/weapons and are able to kill anyone without help from their team. Im asking this because im really pondering of expanding my clan to this mod(kudos to a great ORIGINAL idea: commander mode <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> )and i just want to know about the teamplay.

    BTW: We might also be able to provide with a good server when it is released. i know it isnt much, but at least a start?
