Check out my old work and tell me if...
Update (April 10th, 2003): DAMN! I forgot, you need the codec at http://www.divx.com or it's just going to show a black screen.

More Updates (April 11th, 2003):

Alright, Officially as of April 11th 2003 I have begun working on a NS Music Video. You can expect it around Monday or Tuesday next week, maybe sooner maybe later.

I just thought everyone should know, I have been offered to have my Eclipse video as the starting intro to the Battlefield 1942 mod "Desert Combat" which I have accepted. I'm currently discussing if the NASA footage will be removed and the credits redone.

I'm also working on a new Anime video based on the Series Ah! My goddess, music by Evanscence (Wake me up inside), I don't expect you guys to like it when it comes out. I will do my best to include a plot and use several new techniques I've learned recently. It's dedicated to my girlfriend. Once I finish and show it to her I expect to be getting some. ^_^

Original Post:

I'm a amateur video editor, a couple months ago I began working on music videos, I've alway wanted to do a natural selection music video but I didn't have the footage. I now know how to record a NS demo and turn it into a AVI, so I will start work on the video soon, below are links to my previous work and a brief summary...

http://www.deranged.net/~jetman877/video/Blue.avi (20MB)

My very first video I ever produced was based on a Anime called Blue Submarine #6, after a week of editing it came out perfect except for the text at the bottom and sometimes the video will slow down, still it sets the mood.

http://www.deranged.net/~jetman877/video/Kharak.avi (25MB)

Based on the ground breaking RTS COMPUTER GAME called Homeworld, using cut scenes provided by relic. This took quite a few days to decode the cut scenes into something workable in Adobe Premier 6.0. This would be alot like the NS Music video, however I really screwed up the timing in this video. So go easy on the flames and rants please.

http://www.deranged.net/~jetman877/video/Eclipse.avi (20MB)

My latest music video and I'm damn proud of it, it practically made itself. With footage from NASA and the USAF I began to use advanced techniques. If you want to know how good I am download this video!

Now please at least take a look and tell me what you think, then give me ideas and suggestions I could put into the NS Music Video. Please tell me what you think of the videos!

I downloaded Eclipse. It played fine, and was pretty good too. I didnt care much for the song, but the video was great, and it was timed good as well. I have a few demos, can see what I can do to help you out.

I just watched the homeworld one. Good song, but i think it would have been better if it built towards a climax throughout.

Anyway, yeah, that'd be very cool if such a thing were to be done.

You need the codec at http://www.divx.com or you'll get a black screen, sorry about that.

    It's free so don't worry.

ewwwww linkin park or something like it.....dont care much for the music but the video it self isnt that bad......

I try to spread it out in music genre, honestly not everyone is going to like the music, there is no one song everyone likes. So don't judge the video just because of that. I try.

    Video #1 is Korn (Thoughtless)

    Video #2 is Sevendust (Follow)

Video #3 is Linkin Park (Faint)

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys, keep it coming. Curious, is a demo a video file? Can you host it if you have one?

Linkin Park is the only decent rock band RAP is way better. And there is no C in rap so don't even try it!
btw where are there some good premere tutorials.

Honestly, best way to learn is trial and error. That's how I learned video editing and web page design. Sex too.. ^ ^

i learned premiere through by just playing around with it, seeing what it's able to do, etc. There are some tutorials i wrote at http://chaosfilms.dodhq.net/

You say you want footage... do you want demos or do you want us to get an avi for you to work with? And what kind of content would you be looking for? Just normal play, or people doing really well, or what?
  • Neko877Neko877 Join Date: 2003-03-22 Member: 14794Members
Deffinitely AVI, my computer dosen't have the power to capture ingame footage via program. Just normal play, try not to get shots of you killing someone, but someone else killing someone, 1st person or commander will suck in a music video. Normal play and maybe some really cool stuff too, show off all the points of the game in a few avi files, host them or send them direct and I swear to god I'll put 100% into making a good video.

I know I'm asking you all to do the hard work.

Choice of music could have been better. eh. It becomes stale when everyone uses the same style to convey an emotion that you can no longer feel with it... especially when the video isn't up to par with the other videos. So I guess I'm recommending you try a unique approach so you can get some more applause while you're learning.

Big complaint: what the hell is NASA footage doing in the eclipse video?!?! It could have been a hell of alot better without that. USAF footage was great, but with the other stuff... it's just confusing. I don't know if I should think you're stupid, there's a hidden message, or none of it means anything at all and it's just a bunch of footage strung together you found on the net.

Overall, I can definetly see the progress you are making. Try to create some sense of plot in the music videos, even if there isn't one. Build up with the music, flow with the music. I can see some of this in your older works, but it needs to be your focus.

I've been thinking about creating an NS video for the purposes of showing it to the audience at a club night while the And One song Panzermensch plays on the background. Some clips of a good ol' HA/Welder rush would probably provide suitably comical footage to go along with that song. Unfortunately I'm not much of a video talent so I don't think I can pull this one off.
If someone wants to try, you're welcome.

Just so you know, you don't need a super powerful computer to make avis from demos. Half-Life has a command called "startmovie x" which will make a series of bitmaps at x per second, slowing down the demo if needed. Thus real-time capturing is not needed. However it still takes up a lot of space when capturing so be sure you have at least several gigs to work with. There are some tutorials at GMP. This one in particular might be of interest to you.

800mhz Duron processor and only a few Gigabytes of hard drive space left, it'll be easily to compress the avi to Divx before I start working on them to save space.

May i suggest Carmina Burana / Carl Orff - O' Fortuna for the song?

What about Ozzy - Crazy train?

I would suggest Rob D - Clubbed to death.. but it's 7 minutes long.

Or, possibly, Scatman John- Scatman ?
