Could This Tactic Work?

<div class="IPBDescription">bluffing...</div> To type out a tactic opposite or totally different from what you are really doing through global chat and then send another message like "d'oh!", pretending to have ACCIDENTALLY hit the global chat button and throw your enemy off? for example:

TEAM: RUSH RUSH RUUUSH!

TEAM: [Bluff] (to let them know that u are going to bluff)

Global: everybody run to thus-n-such hive, quickly

Global(teammate bluffing): TEAMCHAT, U ***!

or

Global(you): d'oh!! :\

maybe not the best example, but just an idea I sorta had.

    I'm sure this will work on some occasions, but dont count on it. I use this tactic once in while, but not too often. It might work, i highly doubt it tho

    if you don't announce afterwards "DOH!" or "TEAMCHAT NUB" then it might work. If you "realize" your mistake the other team will imagine that you recalculated your moves.

    It works best when a teammate is in on the the bluff.

    MARINE ONE: Okay, relocate to port engine.

    MARINE TWO: omw

    MARINE THREE: I'll comm.

    Something like that. Then it's believable and the aliens will just sit back and watch thinking, "These guys are noobs". Then when the whole team storms feedwater or ends up in atmos, it's quite a shock.

    Don't ever admit to making an error. if you say "team chat dork!" then the aliens are going to expect you to change your plans.

    This doesn't work if the other team knows you're good. Also if the other team is pretty good they won't fallf or it either.

    It would never work. Anyone intelligent would be like "oh **** did i type that in full chat" and then change the plan. Thus the opposing team has no reason to suspect that you will do what you "accidently" said, since upon normal conditions you wouldnt do that plan. Unless the bluff was to actually do what you said in allchat assuming that they wont believe it.

    The real trick to wondering if it would work or not is, Would it work on you?

    I do this often, actually. Of course, most of the time, my teammates are like "He just said that that was a bluff on teamchat" over regular say. I mean, come on, it's funny to see a team go crazy over a fake rush!

    It could work but the plan is just as useful as saying you know that I know that you know that I know where your going.

    It is a gamble more than a tactic, but its still possible <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I have already done that, when I was still a counter-strike player.

    so I sez rush under the tunnel on de_dust as T, and d'oh it was allsay <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> So I say ok forget it. It can work, but you have to know how they are going to react.

    If they are smart they won't comment and go where you said (and thus you fool them)
    or they might comment but will check just to be sure.

    Sometimes they'll comment and just do as if the plan has been forgotten <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    as has been said don't rely on that though <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Bluffing works wonders.
    Bluffing is terrible when your team doesnt realize your bluffing.

    "all attack silo." [Bluff] take over cargo.
    "ok"
    Everyone then procedes to sile and gets slaughtered.

    Machiavellian discord... psychology, reverse-psychology, and reverse-reverse psychology.. ad infinitum.

    Propaganda is a powerful tool... even moreso if you send two Marines to your stated 'bluff' point, and the rest to your actual attack point. The two cause a ruckus, kill as much as they can, and generally act like more than just two Marines, if possible. The remaining sit by the other target, wait for all the Aliens to leave, then walk in (NOT destroying or attacking ANYTHING until where they need to be) and take the joint over while the Aliens are attacking the opposite point. Same thing is a lot more difficult to do as Aliens, but still quite possible.

    And SoBe... shush. You might disbelieve the bluff, and rush to the other Hive... but you're one of those caught flat-footed as the Hive you just ran away from (all the way across the map, the one they said they were going to attack) comes under spawnkill, and then siege.

    aka, just by playing the game you could be bluffing. This tactic is just as simple as playing the game. Of course this tactic does work, but how can the other team ever identify if you will do what you claim to do, not do it, or assume that you would do it and thus assume that you wouldnt do it to second guess their assumption that you would do it, and in the end you do it so you like tripple bluffed them by causing them to think about it. OR they just dont care and attack your base regardless of what your doing thus causing them to stop to go save their base. All bluff are stoped by hitting their base and forcing them to defend, thus negating weither or not they were bluffing or not. Thus the most simple answer is the best way to stop bluffs, just attack them. So regardless if their bluffing or not it shouldnt matter.

    Unless they were bluffing that they were going to attack, and all of them are sitting in base and waiting to chew you up as you rush in to take out the 'undefended' base.

    It's not the bluff... it's figuring out what the bluff is actually hiding.

    Or the bluff could actually be the truth.

    that trick rarely works or is not worth the bluffing work.

    What often works is the Health-ammo bluff.
    You know there is an alien around the corner but you dont want to run in the trap.
    Walk short steps forward and backward and yell "medpack" or "need ammo" even if you dont need it.
    Dropping and repickuping the weapon + knifing + shooting in the air makes it realistic.
    Arrogant alien players often think they can kill you easy then but run into YOUR trap.

    The best way to counter this is just ignore it and act only by your team's observation.

    all of you are mising the concept here. The marines dont know if anything is or isnt a bluff. Simply by NOT telling them or attacking them or even by attacking them you are bluffing at something. Its called tactics. Not letting your enemy know what your doing. What you all seem to be refering to is called diversion. Bluffing is nothing more than the art of fooling your enemy into believing you will do something else. The thing is your ALWAYS bluffing weither its intentional or not. As such, it is something that happens VERY often and works ALOT. Now diversion tactics are something not used often and when used have a decent percetage of success when pulled off properly.

    Haha <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> This reminds me of a time on the school LAN playing TFC on Hunted <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Because all the sound cards had been disabled there was no way to chat with mics or anything like that, and because typing was too slow everyone was just shouting out commands to their teammates at the tops of their voices, allowing the other team to hear...

    I was playing as a bodyguard and my mate was the Hunted... we were getting slaughtered because everytime I or he would say 'Vent me!' or 'Going through the sewer!' the assassins would just pop up at that location and AR him to a bloody squashy pile on the floor...

    We then decided over team chat to come up with a code for all the locations... If I shouted 'Go through the vent!' then the hunted would shout 'Ok!' and go up to the street - lol....

    It worked suprising well for a couple of rounds ... Hunted told me he was going up the vent and to secure the top and so I waited for him to pop out of the sewers - lol.... then as we ran through the ruins he was shouting 'Ahh get back to base I'm under attack I need a medic at base!' - haha

    I managed to get the door open for him, and he escaped ... trouble was, the next round they cottoned on to what we were doing because as he shouting 'Going through sewers' an assassin saw us trying to get him into the vent and shouted that they were all being tricked <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> .... oh well - it was fun for a little while
