Click Here If You Cannot Connect To Ns

<div class="IPBDescription">or any other HL mod for that matter</div> If you are having problems connecting to NS tonight (or other half-life mods), here is another replacement woncomm.lst file.

1. Backup your old woncomm.lst file (in your /half-life/valve or /cstrike/valve or /counter-strike/valve directory)
2. Save the attached zip file to your harddrive
3. Expand out the woncomm.lst file and place it in the valve directory where your old woncomm.lst file was located.
4. Connect to NS and play

This file should be considered temporary as it uses static IP addresses instead of DNS entries, so this is why I recommend just backing it up. Wait a week and start using your old woncomm.lst file if you wish, which is a bit more flexible.

A major shoutout to NS IRC Channel lurker and all around great guy <b>iNvAsi0n</b> for pointing out this update!

    Maybe I'm just not spiffy on my system files but...why would that file need to be changed in the first place? What change happened that affected not just NS but CS and everything else? Why is it only temporary?

    MonsieurEvil:

    Another possible solution is a s follows:

    I had the won connection problem for about 2 months, and no end of woncomm.lst replacing or re-installing would fix it. Then I found that I had been given "Funlove", a virus, over a LAN.

    By scanning and removing this virus, then re-installing HL and NS, I was able to play again.

    I know a number of people have gone as long as I did without NS, so perhaps you could put this solution in the sticky or something.

    *goes off to play his 2nd game of NS in 2 months(!!)*

    Or get the All-Seeing-Eye.

    The All seeing eye doesn't help if you can't connect to WON anyway, as half life still needs to validate you through WON however you run the program.

    The above woncomm.lst should fix the majority of problems. Needless to say if you do not have a virus scanner, get one now! (you can use an online "housecall" (search google for housecall) virus scanner in the meantime, but this is not a replacement for a real time VS/FW)

    Though people should use <a href='http://udpsoft.com/eye/' target='_blank'>The All Seeing Eye</a> anyway. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    This may be a stumper for ya!!

    I just started playing NS. Prolly played like 3 games in total so far. I cant connect through the Internet games in the game. Prompts a window that says I dont have the mod currently installed. But yet it is NS. So I reinstalled it. Same problem. In order to join a game I need to use the console. Anyone else have this problem. Some of my friends have told me to just use HLSW, and be done wit it wut do you all think? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Delete the shortcut to Natural Selection on your desktop and use the one in the Start Menu.

    If the WON servers are down, no one can authenticate with them. To start a server or join a server, you must authenticate with WON. This applies to all of Half-Life.

    I kinda hope the downtime was Steam/CS 1.6 related. I saw some screenies of steam in action that just blew my mind.

    ...just to clarify, the wonconn.lst is just a file containing the won identification server IPs, it's just an update. i had to do mine around 6 months ago, it's different for people around the world.

    Reading posts on places like CSNation valve recommend you don't actually do that, as the original file contains the DNS's, and the new one I assume contains the IP's. Problem with this is WON's servers change their IP's sometimes I believe.

    This is correct - that's why I tell people to back up their old one and just use the new for a couple days. Becuase gamers wanna game, not wait 96 hours for DNS propogation...

    Thanks ME,

    I tried looking up and pinging the secure servers from that woncomm.lst file:
    half-life.speakeasy-nyc.hlauth.net:27012
    half-life.speakeasy-sea.hlauth.net:27012
    half-life.speakeasy-chi.hlauth.net:27012

    <a href='http://www2.hunter.com/~skh/scripts/dnslookup.html' target='_blank'>http://www2.hunter.com/~skh/scripts/dnslookup.html</a>
    gave me these IP's
    64.81.159.155
    64.81.178.5
    64.81.159.155

    I can't get a ping returned from them at all.

    NS and DOD won't let me in at all. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
