How Many Casualties Are Needed

to make this war unjust
One of the major pro-war arguments is that the war will safe the lives of a lot of Iraqis. Less people will die in this war than would die under Saddam Hussein's regime. Now, the question arises how many deaths are needed in order to nullify this claim. Would this war be just if thousands of Iraqis die? Would it be just if hundreds of thousands of Iraqis die? Would it be just if the whole Iraqi population is wiped out? Would it still be just if the whole region was nuked?

How many deaths are needed to make you pull back?

Saddam killed an estimated 2 million so far under his regime, and lets say if he and his sons remained in power for 30 years another 2 million would be killed. So maybe when the death toll is in the millions, but the question comes up, do you decide not to do something because it's too though or too costly?

Well, let me ask you this. If you were the leader of a nation occupied or invaded by the Axis in WW2, would you just surrender and let your people be taken over knowing that there would be few deaths, or would you fight knowing that millions would die?

There are also the indirect deaths caused by the sanctions on Iraq. I think it's fair to say that those will never be lifted while Saddam (or his chosen successor) is in office.
